Multiple Sclerosis Patients Sigh of Relief – Part Two

Recently MS patient in January Wilks began walking days after treatment with umbilical cord stem cells after years in a wheelchair. Coverage of his case in the press caused a huge demand for more information about this new and advanced technology. January Wilks is only one of the successes of stem cell therapy.

Stem Cell Treatment

Treatment consists of injections of stem cells currently requires a few hours and stay at one of the 12 international centers. In a typical case of MS, there are several pictures of a vial of stem cells. These are injected into the skin / fat layer on the back and one or two regions hit the body (for example, in the footsteps of a hand useless, or the skin around the eye with vision problems.) N injected into the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) itself.

The data show the benefits of stem cell therapy in both progressive and relapsing / remitting type.  But the type and speed advantages, the extent of regeneration and biological methods for regeneration, which may differ from the RA, but the results are consistent in both types.  All the variables above differs considerably from case to case within the categories of PP to RR, which makes it difficult to compare categories.  Study groups are expected to generate a more precise answer to this question.  The most important factor among the cases seen so far is not the type of MS, but drugs prescribed (ABC drugs, antibiotics, chemotherapy), which – because of factors such as toxicity is – inhibits the activity of stem cells and reduce the likelihood of an advantage.

When the stem cells injected was traveling to areas of damage / demyelination / inflammation through a process called “messenger”.  Stem cells follow the signs to the bodies of chemicals produced naturally when the body is under stress, damage or repair.  These posts attract stem cells to areas in need.  When stem cells reach their destination, there are five main mechanisms, or a combination of mechanisms that help stem cells to repair neurological damage.  They are:

1) Transdifferentiation: When ripe, the primitive cells already assumed the role of a more specialized cell type.

2) transdetermination: Redirecting a cell to produce other cell types.  For example, a stem cell from bone marrow begins to produce neurons or cartilage done.

3) During differentiation, mature cells are activated to back up the ladder model to produce a cell type.

4) Fusion: The stem cells fuse with existing cells to create a “super cell” that has removed access to DNA and is able to perform the neurological repair.

5) trophic support: Stem cells produce growth factors that stimulate the repair of existing cells.

Treatment of Logistics

The time required for the clinic for an examination of pre-treatment, injection and control is about 3 hours.  The injections take less than five minutes.

Some customers report a feeling of warmth to the ground after the injection and slight drowsiness for several days.  Others point to a renewed energy and euphoria.  Some people feel nothing remarkable in the treatment, but clinical usefulness of the report.

The treatment is designed to operate as a single treatment, and each case considered for the treatment of future needs individually.  In each case, the objectives must be established about the benefits of treatment desired.  If these goals are not met by the first treatment, it may be necessary to supplement therapy.  tracks are made periodically by the medical board and monitoring coordinator.  The cost of treatment is € 19,500 back to treatments for patients treated in 2005 were offered at a discounted price of € 10,000.

Treatment Results

In the best case, where progressives have resumed their normal activities and maintain these benefits over a year, and marks not need reinforcements.

ACT has developed a scale based on patients self-reports of subjective benefits that patients consider important to them and their daily activities.

Category 1: A major benefit or a life change for them (eg, bladder control, sexual function, hand function).

Category 2: Additional benefits to achieve personal goals of the patient.

Category 3 (highest rank): A comprehensive response beyond the expectations of patients and conventional doctors.

January Wilks saw results very quickly, which happens from time to time.  On average, the benefits of advanced treatment usually between three and six months after treatment one year after landing.
