N-Power:could a Global Consensus be Achieved

International community has realized the importance of nuclear power. The question is whether they could reach a common solution.

Recently in her short visit to India,Ms.Hillary Clinton, the U.S secretary of state, signed many agreements, including nuclear proliferation ,with the Indian premier Dr. Manmohan Singh.Few years ago India like many other countries opposed nuclear proliferation, but today no country in the world could remain isolated from usage of nuclear power. They have realised how necessary it has become for their survival, to be a part of the nuclear world.

Even countries like Britain who did not encourage N-power in the past, has realised its importance in fulfilling the future energy requirements.Steps have already been taken in this direction to produce and utilise nuclear fuel as a plain and eco-friendly source of energy.

The U.S government must be convinced by now that any kind of tests which brings mass destruction will never be accepted, whatever may be its objectives. In fact the Germans learned the lesson before U.S that ,any attempts to apply N-power for destructive purpose, will not be entertained by anyone who can survive and live peacefully even without these trials being imposed on them. The vision of such enthusiasts should however be to produce clean and eco-friendly source of energy and rest assured, this is not going to be an easy task at all. Many countries keep their nuclear power access as top secret. They dont want it to be leaked or passed on to somebody else.Even if they are willing to do it, there is no law which protect their rights being protected once they exchange, which guarantees them of no misuse. So how could we reach a Global Consensus.

It is within the fundamental rights of each country to strengthen its defence mechanismand develop strategy ,to combat any threat which could endanger their national security. But this doesn’t mean they could misuse the priviledges given to safeguard its national integrity.

Mr.Mahmood Ahmedinajad , the recently reelected Iranian premier recently attacked the U.S policy in the West  Bank. However he was criticised by others for he not only was incapable of utilising the surplus oil reserves in Iran and refining them, but also was encouraging Uranium enrichment, which could also be used as a nuclear bomb. Critics feel that Mr Ahmedinajad who is a strong opposer of U.S since he came to power last time,by blaming the U.S strategy in the West Bank ,is trying to overshadow his country’s endeavour to misuse their nuclear potential.

Last year when North Koreans performed underground nuclear tests producing a large scale of seismic vibrations, were criticised by the international community, and a ban was imposed on trade relations with them by many countries. Amid all this misunderstandings, there are lot of unresolved questions before the international cummunity. Some of them are: Is there ample resources and technology backup to create safe and secure n-power.If yes, then could we reach a Global Consensus regarding the use of n-power. The solutions to these questions are not going to be easy.

As non-renewable sources of energy will get exhausted in few years, the future lies in nuclear energy for an ounce of nuclear fuel can produce the same power as produced by several tons of conventional energy resources. So the international community has to think and work out a way to provide access over the nuclear energy to all, as it will be inevitable to sustain life in future.
