Natural and a Land Scape of Abraka in Delta State Nigeria

CHAPTER ONE

1.0 Aims and Objectives

     The central Aim of this Field work is to study the Natural and Human impact of the Landscape of Abraka region which includes;

Ø     Field work as an extension of classroom instruction which is concerned primarily with giving student a opportunity to verify what they have already learnt and discuss in the geography room.

Ø     Identification of major geographic features and activities in Abraka and its environment

Ø     Identification of water bodies and river system

Ø     Description of present vegetation characteristics, human activities, mode of transportation, climatic characteristics, waste generation and environmental problems, causes and possible environmental management measures.

 

1.1 Methodology

Ø     Methodology as regards the field trip encompasses the apparatus in which the field trip was made possible i.e. tape rule, pacing system, direct observation, biro, field book, drawing boards etc.

Ø     The nature of field work further stressed that it involves careful observation, recording, analyzing and explaining the findings as it requires a spirit of enquiry (Longman and Robinson 1973)

 

 

 

1.2 Importance of field trip to Geographic studies

a.       Field work provides an opportunity for concrete experience not available in the class room situation

b.      It enables the teacher and student make use of teaching aids that are immobile that is the field

c.      It exposes the student to experience the competent resource people

d.      It facilitates remembering and regresses forgetfulness because pictures and botanical specimen cannot be forgotten seeing object in natural condition.

   

1.3 Limitation

a.       Fieldwork is expensive especially if long distance is to be covered

b.      Fieldwork is time consuming in terms of preparation, travel time and time spent at the geographic scene

c.      If carefully planned bad weather may cause difficulties

d.      It is one of the most trying method of teaching because why the student demand and require a measure of freedom and laxity, there is the need to maintain law, order and discipline.
