Mayor Bloomberg alerts us to new and "credible" terrorist threats.
Just days before the ten year anniversary of the day that terrorists took down the Twin Towers in New York and attacked the Pentagon there is a new threat. This threat, we are being told is “credible” and there is talk of it being a car bomb either in New York or Washington.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg was quoted as saying “We know the terrorists regard the anniversary as an opportunity to strike again”. This information was obtained on the day of the raid on Osama Bin Laden. Intelligence found evidence to show that Bin Laden had “an interest” in special dates like September 11th.
Although the terrorists threats are credible Mayor Bloomberg also notes that they are unconfirmed, though he said “We will take all threats seriously”. He warns New Yorkers to be on alert and “If you see something, say something”.
New York will be on heightened alert with extra bomb sweeps, dog patrols, surveillance and vehicle checkpoints. Mayor Bloomberg also mentioned bag checks in subways and the numbers to call if we are to see anything suspicious. With this threat coming so close to the anniversary of the September 11th attacks it is only a reminder of the devastation that occurred that day.
I, for one hope that this is nothing more than a hoax. However, I am ready to keep my eyes open and report anything I see. Let us all hope that nothing happens and that we can honor the people who died in the September 11 attacks in peace.
