Newscaster Accused of Sexual Assault

A New York City newscaster was accused of sexual assault.  He is the son of a police commissioner.

The news
Good Day New York newscaster Greg Kelly (43) was accused of sexual assault.  A woman has come forward and accused Greg Kelly of sexually assaulting her.  The alleged assault took place in October 2011 in New York.  What makes the situation more complicated is the fact that Greg Kelly is the son of NYC police commissioner Ray Kelly.

The woman (in her late 20s or 30s) made the complaint at the 13th Precinct station.  The woman hasn’t said why she waited so long to come forward about the alleged sexual assault.

The woman claimed that she and Greg Kelly went out for drinks on the night of the attack.  They went to her office where she works as a paralegal.  According to her story, Greg Kelly raped her in her office.  They stayed in touch with each other after the alleged assault.  Greg Kelly has denied the charges that he sexually assaulted the woman.

To add to the alleged assault, the woman claimed that she was pregnant as a result of the attack.  She said she had an abortion when she found out she was pregnant.

When the woman’s boyfriend informed him of the alleged assault, he informed the commissioner at a public event about the incident.  The boyfriend accused Greg Kelly of ruining his girlfriend’s life.

Since Greg Kelly is the son of the commissioner, the district attorney will be conducting the investigation.  The police are determined to find out what really happened between the two of them.

As of now, Greg Kelly has not been charged with anything.

My thoughts
This is a tough situation for Greg Kelly as well as the accuser.  Greg Kelly is a newscaster who reports the news and now has found himself headline news.  It must have been hard for the people at Good Day New York to report this story about their colleague. 

I wonder why the accuser waited so long to report the alleged assault.  The time she waited is going to make her lose credibility.  She destroyed possible evidence of the attack by waiting so long to come forward.  It’s going to be even harder for her to prove that an assault took place.  Rape is already hard enough to prove, but she made it even worse by waiting so long to say something.

I wonder why her boyfriend had to tell the commissioner about the attack.  You would think that she would have been the one to tell the commissioner what happened. 

This must be difficult for the commissioner.  He is used to solving crimes and now his son is involved in a major crime.  He most likely wants to help prove his son’s innocence, but he is choosing to stay out of it.  It is the best thing for him to do because there will be a conflict of interest because he could tamper with evidence.  I’m not saying that he will tamper with evidence, but there will always be doubt that he might.

I’m not sure which one to believe since I was not there.  Whether Greg Kelly is innocent or not, his career as a newscaster is over.  There’s no way he will be taken seriously when he’s reporting the news.  People will always wonder if he’s guilty of sexual assault or if his father helped get him off the hook.
