The out-going Nigerian Ambassador to the Philippines, Hon. Ndubuisi Amaku, has solicited support of the Mayor of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, for Nigerians leaving in the city.
The Ambassador stated this while paying a courtesy call on the Mayor Hon. Manuel Chiquiting Sagarbarria in his office during his five days working tour to the Visayan region to felicitate with Nigerians in the region.
Nigerians Doing Legitimate Businesses
Hon. Amaku said that Nigerians doing legitimate businesses are so many in the Philippines and as such called on the Mayor and the Philippines government to create the enabling environment that’ll assist Nigerians in the country to fulfill their objectives.
In his response, the Mayor said that Nigerians and other nationals are always welcomed in the city adding that his office is always ready and willing to receive anyone with legitimate and genuine businesses.
He noted that Dumaguete City is one of the top destinations in the Philippines especially for divers and nature lovers adding that the city is not only a place to reminisce the old Spanish times, rather it’s also a perfect summer getaway to relax and be in one with the wonders of the nature.
The Nigerian Ambassador had earlier on hosted a group of Nigerians in the city under the auspices of Union of Nigerian Citizens in the Philippines (UNCP) in Bethel Guest House located at the Boulevard area.
Answering questions on why most embassies in the Philippines especially China is making it impossible for Nigerians to travel to China, by requiring them to go back to Nigeria to obtain their visas from China embassy there not minding that some of them already have their residences formalized in the Philippines.
The Need to Leave a Transparent Life
He said that the scenario is regrettable and that so many incidences of that have been reported to the embassy but noting that the issue is not what the embassy of Nigeria in the Philippines will handle on its own, but requires the strong intervention of the Nigerian government at home.
He said that the situation has not always been like this for Nigerians leaving in the Philippines, as the ugly situation is as a result of some Nigerians who’re involved in unwholesome businesses in China and other countries of the world. “As am talking to you people now so many Nigerians are in various prison houses in China and that’s compounding the problem the more.”
He noted that the present hardships encountered by Nigerians will only change when Nigerians themselves change their attitude toward life and that the embassy and the Nigerian Government are already making consultations on how to stem the ugly tide.
Hon Amaku reminded them of the need to leave a transparent life and also to always project the good image of Nigeria as they engage in legitimate businesses in the Philippines, as that will be the only way out for Nigerians to move freely anywhere they want.
Nigerians Admonished on Good Image Building
He admonished Nigerians not to tarnish the good image of Nigeria but rather help in building it up adding that they should see themselves first as good ambassador of Nigeria in whatever they do.
“The Federal Government is doing everything possible to make life better for Nigerians irrespective of their place of abode. And you as such you Nigerians should try and reciprocate the good gestures of the Government by preserving its ideals,” Hon. Amaku stated.
The Ambassador had earlier paid a similar visit to Nigerians in Cebu City, where he also hosted Nigerians in that City and in his entourage is the embassy’s Chief Accountant, Mr. Daniel Ayesiukwe.
