Nine essential facts about one of the world’s biggest problems.
- The leading cause of global warming is from water vapor, then carbon dioxide emissions, nitrous oxides, and chlorofluorocarbons (used in household appliances like air conditioning).
- Chlorofluorocarbons are expected to be eliminated and put out of use by 2030 to help slow down global warming.
- The biggest business sectors that are contributing to global warming are the following: Industry, Transportation, Residential, Commercial, Agriculture.
- Methane is the second biggest cause of greenhouse warming. Gas from cows is a big contributor to global warming.
- A big enough volcano eruption could cool the earth for one or two years because sulfuric acid from the explosion would combine with water vapor to form a “shield” that would reflect some sunlight away from earth. Such an eruption would be quite catastrophic, though.
- The coloration of aerosols (miniscule particles in the air) generally changes their relationship with the sun. Lightly colored aerosols reflect light back away from earth (as a white t-shirt) while darker aerosols generally absorb heat (as a hot asphalt road when it is sunny).
- Generally, wispy clouds, such as cirrus clouds, trap light and thus warm the atmosphere whilst thick clouds generally reflect sunlight.
- Ice/snow cover cools the earth by reflecting sunlight.
- Without water vapor’s effect on the atmosphere, the earth would be at below freezing temperatures.

i think if you look at the hard facts you will find there is more evidence suggesting that Global warming is happening. watch the Al Gore documentry i found it very usefull.

Heres what I think:
CO2 doesen’t cause gloabal warming! but I still think we should cut back, CO2 may not cause global warming but GLOBAL WARMING IS HAPPENING BUT its becuase of the sun, i mean how else could JUPITER,PLUTO, MARS, AND SATURN ALL ‘HAPPEN’ to be getting WARMER??? Soince when do we drive cars on any of those planets? (3050 maybe). I think we should cut back on CO2 anyway because it helps pollute the enviroment, as for the facts up there, CO2 actually follows the climate, about 800 years behind, it doesent change it though so the facts up there ARE CRAP!!!
As for fact 9, WATER PRODUCES MORE CO2 THEN PEOPLE!!!

rosco u have it wrong because it’s not the sun that’s hurting earth it’s pollution that’s suffocating us!!! If it was the sun that was hurting us then that would mean it’s either getting hotter or getting closer and either way there would be a hug explosion sometime and we would all die painfully. and for the person that made the facts: theyre good but some of them don’t line up. and rawwr, jupiter pluto mars and saturn are FARTHER AWAY from the sun than earth is so we would warm up first!! oh smart one..

Your facts are not entirely correct, for a start CFCs do not cause global warming, they in fact are the gases which caused a whole to develop in the ozone layer- an entirely different story.

Global warming has many causes. About 33% of US carbon dioxide emissions comes from the burning of gasoline engines of cars and trucks. Vehicles with poor gas mileage contribute the most to global warming which is horrible. An example of a car that gives off the most carbon dioxide is the Dodge Durango which gets 12 miles per gallon and emits 800 lbs of carbon dioxide at a distance of 500 miles. For each gallon, 19.6 pounds of carbon dioxide is emitted into the air. US is the largest consumer of oil which is estimated about 20.4 million barrels/day. Stated in 2002, 40% of US carbon dioxide emissions were from the burning of fossil fuels which are for electricity generation. Coal emits 1.7 times as much carbon dioxide when burned as does natural gas and 1.25 times as much as oil. However, carbon dioxide from airplanes causes 3.5 percent of global warming and it could definitely increase to 15% by 2050. Carbon dioxide may be the principal greenhouse gas, yet methane is more than twenty times as effective as CO2 when trapped in the atmosphere. When fields are flooded, organic matter in the soil decomposes, releasing CH4 to the atmosphere through the rice plants. Gas from cows is a big contributor to global warming as well. Another greenhouse gas is N2O (nitrous oxide) which is a non flammable gas known as the “laughing gas.” N2O goes in the atmosphere by chemical reactions that involve sunlight. Deforestation is a major cause of atmospheric carbon dioxide which is responsible for 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions. The burning of 34 million acres of trees each year destroys the tropical forests and is emitting millions of tons of carbon dioxide in the air each year.
