No to Gays, Yes to Sex Tapes: Meet Miss Hypocrisy 2009

Another outspoken Christian is giving Christians a bad name. The hypocrisy of a former beauty pageant winner who never should have tried to play the moral card.

First let me start by saying I do not believe in the statement of this article’s title. Well, not to the first part of it, at least. The “No to Gays, Yes to Prostitution” is in reference to Carrie Prejean. Miss Prejean was the famous Miss USA contestant that answered a question about gay marriage. She didn’t believe in it.

Now, while many were irate about her answer. I felt she answered honestly, although not very eloquently. I didn’t agree with her, but I felt she had every right in the world to answer the question the way she did.

So that really should have been the end of the story, and the end to Prejean’s 15 minutes of fame. Unfortunately, no. Blogger Perez Hilton had to spout off some very nasty words about Miss California, and in response she rose up to become a sort of spokesperson for traditional marriage, or as she calls it “opposite marriage”.

Once again, if only the story would have stopped there. Sadly, no. Topless pictures of Prejean are released, Prejean and the pageant people argue, Prejean gets fired, Prejean sues, the pageant people counter-sue for the cost of her boob job, and finally it all ends with a settlement and a sex tape.

That’s right. Miss California with her strong beliefs in (her interpretation of) the bible gets caught with a sex tape. Now, it’s a solo sort of sex tape – but apparently, still very raunchy. In any case, she most definitely wasn’t with another woman. So she’s holding true to being against same-sex relations. The hypocrisy lies in her putting herself out there supporting the morality of traditional marriage, while she herself partook of the not-so-morale act of making a sex tape.

Does she believe gay sex is a sin, but masturbating for the pleasure of someone who is not your husband is not? Once you believe the bible should start controlling what’s allowed in our country, then you don’t get to pick and choose what part of the bible is worth following.

She’s recently been addressing the sex tape publically, appearing on Fox News with Sean Hannity (video below). Prejean says it was the biggest mistake of her life. She defends herself by saying she was just a teenager when she made the video to send to a boyfriend. Yes, Carrie. We’ve all done some rather foolish things in our youth. But once you do something like make a sex-tape for someone else to see, you may want to reconsider other people’s sexual choices before you take a big stand against anyone.

She goes on to argue that people should remember that she’s just 22 years old. As if 22 years old is too young to make correct decisions or deal with consequences. At 18 you can fight for our country. At 21 you’re old enough to drink. 22 years old is not too young to expect an adult, making adult choices, and handling adult situations.

My advice to Carrie Prejean: Be proud of your sex tape. Say, yes – you are indeed against same-sex marriage and your sex tape only proves you mean what you say. That if you can’t be with someone from the opposite sex, you at least have yourself! Believe me, a comment like that would surely shut her opponents up. But unfortunately as Prejean is most likely aware, it would also end the support she’s getting from her “tradition Christian” fans and groups.
