On Affirmative Action, Black Scholarships, Etc.

My view on Affirmative Action and scholarships that only are eligible on those based on racial requirements.

Many ethnic groups, and women groups call for equality with the white males.  For many years, the white male had an advantage in the workplace and in college entrances.  And to ignore such past discrimination’s is to turn a blind eye to the past.  It has happened, but the nation as a whole is making leaps and bounds to make things equal for all, at least in America.

However, the use of affirmative action allows ethnic groups and women with lower qualifications to get into a job position, since the company has a “quota” of how many whites they can hire.  So even if a white male has higher qualifications, because that company has the max amount of white males hired, a lower qualified woman or a non-white person could get that same job.

The same with scholarships based on race.  This awards students based not on their grades necessarily, but more on their race.  In this way ethnic groups are given an advantage in receiving financial aid over their white counterparts.

In this way, we are moving in the opposite direction, moving towards a society that punishes people for being a white and male.  Equality doesn’t mean righting the wrongs of the past, there is nothing we can do to make up for what’s happened in the past.  What’s important is making things equal for all now, not to make up for lost time.
