Oops I’ve Done It Again!
A short article on our failures as a peace keeping force and hero’s of democracy.
We are still in Iraq apparently training Iraq’s own peace keeping forces? call me a synic I have a strong suspicion after we pull out another dictator will emerge and rule the country with an iron grip. The country will revert to corruption, bribery and torture.
Has it ever occurred to anyone in power a Prime minister or President that maybe just maybe not every country wants a democracy styled on the “Western model”.
Now we are fighting furiously in Afghanistan Americans and Britain’s dieing by the day [I thought it was an allied conflict? cant see any french or German troops? maybe there something wrong with my T.V.!] In my opinion we wont win this conflict we cant, were doing it again aren’t we fighting a conflict trying to free Afghanistan and crush the “Terrorists” training camps, the terrorists will up sticks leave Afghanistan then when the peace keeping force leave they will return! We are heavily involved in arming and training an Afghan peace keeping force so we can withdraw sounding familiar? trouble is the terrorists make up a portion of the so called Afghan army. 5 British troops were murdered by a so called soldier they were training, the first time they gave him a loaded weapon to use he turned it on the British trainers and killed them!
Maybe the Afghan’s like the terrorists? they work for them harvesting their drugs they get paid, has anyone asked the indigenous peoples? no were assuming again they all want a western style democracy, maybe they don’t! The British prime minister announced today a plan to start withdrawing British troops from Afghanistan as from 2010. What do you think will happen then? it will revert back to tribal leadership and corruption guaranteed. The American president is taking his time deciding whether to commit more troops to the conflict. He wants assurances that the Afghan government will support their own peace keeping force and not revert to the way they were. I think a sensible view point but how is this commitment from the Afghans possible? have we asked them? maybe they don’t want saving from the war lords.
I apologise right now if my views are simplistic or ill-informed, I can only use the media, books and the Internet for my information. However in conclusion I can still hear Britney singing “Oops I’ve done it again I’ve made up my mind”.

I am pleased to write that I am in complete agreement with your assessment of the current military engagements. Your recollection of past battles appear factual and your predictions of the future seem likely to me. I’m doubly pleased that I have never heard any of Miss Spears’ songs so I am not distracted when I think of these events.

Your point that we in the West assume that democracy is the best form of government and is our gift to the rest of the world is right on the mark. This assumption has lead the West into wars that we never should have fought. We are still fighting wars for this reason. Actually, I think politicians use the reason of spreading democracy to hide the real reasons they lead us to war. If we must fight wars let the reason be limited and practical. If we did this we probably would fight a lot fewer wars.

I certainly wish it would occur to them. these countries have proved over and over again that they don’t want a democracy.
