Peeing on The Wasp’s Nest: The Inevitable Consequences of The United States’ Policies

The United States of America is a country founded on the belief that all men are created equal and that all men are born with an inclination to pursue the same goals; however, over the course of its history the United States has acted in the complete opposite way. It is a country that is run by the inequality of wealth and the despotism of a fake democracy (America is not a democracy, it’s a republic, yet somehow the urge prevails to "liberate" countries and indoctrinate them with a democracy the invader himself does not practice). America’s acts of despotism and animosity can be seen in its domestic politics as well as in its foreign politics.

The way the United States handles its own problem and its complete neglect of human values, resulting in thousands of unnecessary deaths, should be a warning sign across the globe. Just the sheer lack of simple universal health insurance results in 18,000 annual deaths (that is six times the amount allegedly killed by terrorist attacks!) The United States is one of only two developed countries on this planet that does not provide healthcare for all of its citizens (the other being South Africa!) The simple fact that the United States practices a system of government that supports the idea of despotism more than a socialistic system should be an indication of its attitudes (granted, even socialism is a form of despotism). In his controversial novel Walden Two B.F. Skinner points out the despotism of a democratic system in which the majority is the elite, and the minority (in the worst case 49 percent of the entire population) is left a government they do not want! With simple acts of inhumanity and despotism like these, it is no wonder that the United State’s treatment of this planet and other countries is equally negligent and careless. If the United States fails to take care of its own citizens how can it possibly take care of an entire planet?

The United States uses up 26 percent of the world’s resources, yet they only make up 4 percent of the world’s population! The United States use up 30 percent of the world’s oil supply, while only producing 2 percent! 60 percent of the world’s CO2 emissions are accounted for the United States alone!  Americans spend more money annually on trash bags alone than the combined GDP of ninety (!) of the world’s developing countries! When the United Nations realized the horrific state this planet was in, they drew up the Kyoto Treaty (a treaty regulating CO2 emissions). Every first world country signed the treaty, except for the United States of America (actually, the United States did sign the treaty under the Clinton administration, however, the Bush administration refused to acknowledge this and backed out of it) The United States seem to hold a view of the world and its resources as infinite, when in fact the very materials its society depends on may be closer to extinction than it realizes. Scientists estimate that in the not too distant future the oil wells will run dry, and all the oil companies who have been buying up the patents on alternative forms of vehicular transportation will regret the day they helped push their political candidates into power.
