Peeing on The Wasp’s Nest: The Inevitable Consequences of The United States’ Policies

The United States of America is a country founded on the belief that all men are created equal and that all men are born with an inclination to pursue the same goals; however, over the course of its history the United States has acted in the complete opposite way. It is a country that is run by the inequality of wealth and the despotism of a fake democracy (America is not a democracy, it’s a republic, yet somehow the urge prevails to "liberate" countries and indoctrinate them with a democracy the invader himself does not practice). America’s acts of despotism and animosity can be seen in its domestic politics as well as in its foreign politics.

Change can be brought about in this country, but it will take the collaboration of many people. It can be done as simple as the following steps:

1)    The United States must wake up and realize that the years of plenty are over! The world’s resources are not infinite! Studies have shown that if the United States were to become self-sufficient with (renewable) energy it would make the economy flourish. This would demand investments in sustainable energy, but in the long run it would not only pay for itself but also make money, and the American Way Of Life TM would not have to change (with the exception of phony wars waged over oil, of course).

2)    The Horatio Alger myth must come to an end and be accepted as what it is, a children’s tale. The reality is that not everyone will be rich. Needles to say that a few privileged individuals will succeed (after all, the masses need to see modern day “Horatio Algers”), but the majority of citizens will have to come to terms with the fact that they will not be millionaires.

3)    The government must change! If this planet is to be saved the world’s largest polluter can not afford to be run by a government in bed with the oil industry. It is not just the ruling party that must change, for Thoreau proved in Walden that change cannot be brought about on a political level (because humans are humans, and one will never be better than his predecessor) (11). Change must be brought about in the system itself. Oil, as all energy sources, should be regulated by the federal government, so as to prevent another Enron fiasco.

4)    Once the government has changed the first steps taken must be to stop making enemies across the globe (the alleged 9/11 terrorist attacks proved that people will go to extreme lengths to show their disdain for this country’s foreign politics). The current administration is not only making enemies, they are angering them on a daily basis. On a global scale America is a kid who peed on a wasp’s nest and got stung; but instead of learning from it, he lashes out against wasps, bees, and any other form of flying insect in the hopes of prevailing over wasps. The logical outcome of this is that the he will get stung again, which in turn will evoke the same reaction. It’s a circle of violence and it has to stop with the kid who peed on the wasp’s nest.

These simple steps, if followed, will ensure that the United States will do their share to take care of the planet given to them; because the current course it is taking is headed towards disaster. If nothing is done to bring about change the United States will be experiencing the apocalypse from the front seat of a gas-guzzling SUV (which ironically ran out of gas)!
