Pentagon: Groups of Terrorists Trying to Enter Libya

Washington – The U.S. Defense Department official on Wednesday said that terrorist groups may attempt to enter Libya, but has so far been rejected by the Libyan National Transition Council (NTC).

The officials concluded in this assessment provides background on the Pentagon, and said that the terrorist group is “always looking for targets of opportunity.”

Officials said the NTC had rejected the terrorist groups and “it seems they have tried hard to separate themselves.”

Terrorist groups have grown in other parts of North Africa, including al-Shabaab in Somalia, Boko Haram in Nigeria, and Al Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb, an Algeria-based group that is believed to be working with the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan, according to officials, who briefed media on condition of anonymity.

U.S. officials said intelligence officials now are studying the extent of splinter terrorist groups that work together.

“They will remain a concern,” said a Defense Department official.

“There are elements of the organization beat … that is separate from the ideological component, you can get them to make their operations can not afford.

“But that does not undermine the idea of ​​Al-Qaeda.”
