Personal Hygiene: Water vs. Toilet Paper
There is nothing more convenient and purer than water for Personal Hygiene. It is Safe, User-friendly and Environment-friendly. Misuse of toilet paper for denoting a particular cultural style, as done in Australia, is objectionable.
Uncultured Habit
Using toilet paper is looked down upon as uncultured by cultured people of Ancient Civilizations, including those of Asian and African countries. A large bucket of water and soap is considered safe, sanitary, healthy, cultured, refined and civilised for Personal Hygiene and routine ablutions. Well, if Cleanliness is next to Godliness then water beats toilet paper hands down, on the hygiene count.
Modern Toilet Systems
Although the western Water Closet is fairly common in Hotels and Trains all over Asia and Africa, water still holds sway as The Cleansing Medium, not Toilet Paper. Western and European societies perhaps prefer toilet paper because of the cold and harsh weather conditions. Ironically, “open defecations” are found more in Asian countries– 868-Million people against 331-Million people for the rest of the world, from a World population of 1.2-Billion people!
Australian Culture
Earlier this year a Filipino Mechanic got sacked in Queensland, Australia for the un-Australian culture of using water in the loo, instead of toilet paper! Some culture that, coming from Down Under. Come to think of it– there is nothing original about this Island’s culture. Geographically, under the Continental Drift Theory this land got detached from the Indian sub-continent. The place was used for confining hardened British convicts. The next generation Australians however, first plundered Aboriginals and Bushmen, then they started altering the ecology, butchering kangaroos, dingoes, emus and other wild life to establish supremacy over the then wildlife. They even imported Arab camels to conveniently access the Great Australian Deserts. Now these camels run wild, and are hunted down mercilessly from helicopters as they are considered a threat to Australian culture. A few Aboriginal Reserve Camps and some inter-racial marriages does not necessarily hide the inherent bullying instincts of Australian culture.
True Picture
Over-hyped as great outdoor sports-lovers, they are actually most unsporting. Known for their unfair practices, in sports and elsewhere, Australians are instinctively aggressive–blame it on their genes. Great practitioners of Gamesmanship, they are quite natural about their on-field slanging and sledging skills. The razing of the Aboriginal Outback and Bush Country has brought in it’s wake ecological disaster. The recent Red Haze Sandstorm in Sydney was just a Warning Sign from God. Apparently the New Multi-Cultural Australia reveals intolerance towards people of Asian and African origins.
Conclusion
Sitting atop a tied-up crocodile does not project the image of Australians as animal-lovers or wildlife enthusiasts.. Neither does using reams of toilet paper make much of a cultural statement. Rather an Aboriginal Boomerang or a Bamboo Flute does make a strong cultural statement of things original and Australian . The professed Australian multi-culture is a put-on Act for Commercial success. No wonder the stiff British Upper Lip still prefers to look down upon those Down Under sledging Australians. Therefore, let those who prefer water, use the environment-friendly water, and let us not misuse toilet paper for hitting non-Australians below the belt.
