Philippines: In Crisis

Our country, our world is wonderful. Take care of it.

Philippines. A country considered to be one of the richest in natural habitats in the world. It is also a country famed for beautiful white sand beaches, breath-taking sceneries, colorful festivals, tasty exotic foods, and numerous tourist spots. But behind all these greatness, the Philippines is in crisis. Long before the “climate changes’ effects” are felt within the Philippines, crisis are already being seen.

Lack of water, high unemployment rates and increasing poverty rate are just some of the problems that Philippines have had years before. Now, thanks to most people’s hard-headedness, the Philippines is having twice the problems as it did before because like the rest of the world, the Philippines is also experiencing “Mother Nature’s Revenge”.

Warmer temperature, lack of electric supply, extreme weather conditions, sea level rise, floods, destruction of crops and increased price on food are the additional problems that Philippines is having right now. Everyone is doing all they can to move on from the nightmare that the two typhoons that devastated Metro Manila and Northern Luzon bestow upon them. But everyone knows that as the world grows warmer, things will get much worse.

The Philippines is already in crisis without the effects of climate change. Now, it is in much worse condition than ever before. Studies reported that Philippines is one of the most vulnerable to climate change. The worst case scenario, predictions stated that most of the Philippines will be devoured by the sea when the Arctic Ice caps melts and sea level rise up to approximately seven meters..

Nature is getting even. It’s time to be aware of what is happening around. People’s ignorance on the world’s economic condition is the main cause of this climate change. If only people cared about the world more, then the world would care about the people more too. The world is getting a lot warmer; the Arctic Ice Caps are melting; extreme and sudden weather changes are being experienced.

The Philippines is in crisis: Economic crisis, political crisis, weather crisis. But then again, it’s not just the Philippines. Filipinos are not just the ones experiencing climate crisis, so is the whole world.

You have a point there. Tell that to the people in power who never ran out of the drive to exploit our motherland. Our only option is to pray for the last minute.
