Politicians: Volunteers Not Hired

Politicians are what’s wrong with the government and should be solely a volunteer non-paying job.

It seems to me that most if not all higher up politicians are wealthy in some way. Either they own or have owned a highly profitable business or inherited money or just made tons off stocks. The point is they don’t seem to have a full grasp on their job, serving the people. The people are the ones that elected, not hired them. If we had hired them then where is their resume so we could look it over? They have volunteered to run for office since they don’t need the money. A paid job is for those who have no other source of income. Do you thing Arnold Schwartzenager needs to be paid to be governor of California? He makes more off the royalties of his movies then most could dream of. Political ads do not constitute a resume either. Most of them just point out some shortcoming of the person they are up against. Overall these seem more detrimental to the attacker then the attacked.

If all was fair each elected official with an alternate source of income or sufficient assets should not be paid. Think of the millions that could be saved if this happened. Of course it is just a pipe dream, none of them would dare refuse the money even though most are old enough to live comfortably off whatever they have saved and/or make on the side. Many of them are old school, not wanting to change. Change that might impede on their millions of dollars they don’t really need but hoard away thinking they do. Change is inevitable and they are too old and stiff to bend to the increasingly ever-changing world we live in. Change is what’s needed because everything wears out even a government. President Obama is striving for change but is up against a large block of old timers scared to change things. It didn’t help the Bush was one of those old timers that didn’t need the job and really couldn’t do the job thus running the country into the ground. Looking after ones self-interest is fine as long as it’s not detrimental to the rest of the country or even the world.

The more you overwork the plumbing the easier it is to stop up the system it’s been said. The U.S. government sure seems to be a very complicated series of pipes interconnected yet leading nowhere except to drop the waste upon the less fortunate in the country. What a different country this might be if the rich weren’t in charge. I’m sure that it would be much better for all and it would be run more efficiently and effectively then ever before. I’m proud of my country but not so much of the ones in charge of it.
