Politics

A lasting experience I had trying to contact my Representative in the United States House.

Sometimes I wonder if our elected officials ever consider how they achieved the position they hold. For example, my local elected official to congress has not responded to any visits to his office by me for over 18 months. Even then, it would not have happened at all except for the fact I urged one of the local officials elected to the state house of representatives in my district to send him a letter on my behalf. Then one of his office workers called me from an out of town office from a different county stating she was his veterans office worker. After speaking to her I have yet to hear a thing from his office.

Politics ….. Is this an example of politics? ….. Is this an example of how representation takes place? …….. Is this how “we the people” deserve to be represented in our government? ……. How many others have had this type of experience with their elected officials?

Personally, I am a registered Independent voter. I have no party preference nor do I adhere to party politics. I am simply an individual that feels politics should be left at the door after the election is done. Both sides of congress in the senate and house have done nothing to move to get the “American” preferences accomplished. By this I am speaking of the excessive wealth being gathered by the top 1% of people.

In America we have all expected to be treated equally and with respect at all times. We find now, however, that the top 1% of people hold 97% of all wealth and most of the taxes are being paid by the lowest and most hard hit financially in our country. This allows the very top earners free rides and much more considering they are the very ones that own the businesses and industries we all pay monthly to live.

There are solutions to this mess. First of all, we need a way to report our elected officials when they do not respond to their constituents. Second, totally wipe out existing tax laws for income of any type. Replace the tax law with a totally new but very old idea about fairness to all. The very lowest incomes of less than $15,000.00 would be totally exempt from paying income tax. This would include social security, VA, SSI or any pension with payouts of $15,000.00 or less. Then, install a plan that would tax personal incomes on a 3 step process. Step 1 is the $15,000.01 to $30,000.00 personal income range to pay a rate of 7%. Step 2 is the $30,000.01 to $45,000.00 personal income range to pay a rate of 12%. Step 3 is the range from $45,000.01 and up to pay 17%. There are absolutely no upper limits on this plan and it remains fair only if there are not any limits. Also the FICA we pay stops being collected after a certain point is collected depending on your income level and all upper limits should be removed to make this a fair process as well and taxes collected all during the working times of all working individuals put into the trust fund for Social Security, SSI and Veterans Disabilities.
