Poverty in Africa

This is occurring in our world, in Africa, right now.

“Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural,
it is man-made and can be overcome
by the actions of mankind”
– Nelson Mandela

Our absorbed lives are brimming with choices; what to eat for lunch, plans for our weekend, the pathway to our futures. Every single one of us has the inestimable opportunity for success and a flourishing future. But what if someone robbed you of your advantages and snatched away your liberty?

I am sure you know that our world is not a fair place and nowhere near perfect. I believe that all individuals deserve basic living standards as permitted in your human rights, entitling the right for food, entitling the right for education, entitling the right for adequate housing, health and freedom of opinion. However, according to statistics (UNICEF) approximately 30,000 children die each day due to the devastating crisis of poverty which can be prevented. Is this justice? Whilst we are offered an education they are incapable to write their names, whilst we devour nourishing meals they experience the unimaginable agony of starvation and whilst we selfishly think of ourselves they are dying because nobody has taken the occasion to think of them.

The diamond of privilege is taken for granted by us all. We flaunt and boast its beauty and preciousness instead of cherishing something so valuable. Imagine living on less than £2.50 a day, a distress that almost half the world, over three billion people has to anguish. I do not expect to save this fatal planet and the earth’s unspeakable horrors but minor differences can make a major impact, for instance, improving foreign aid and trade justice.

From the moment you began reading about this urgent situation, approximately 40 children suffering from poverty are now dead.
