Poverty in Ethiopia

An outline why ethiopia in in poverty.

Ethiopia is a country in Africa. Ethiopia is landlocked in the horn of Africa, some neighboring countries to Ethiopia include: Somalia, Kenya, Etria and Sudan. Most of these countries are also in poverty. Ethiopia is a mostly desolate country with very few habitable areas; there are also few areas to get drinking water from. Ethiopia is an extremely poor country; it is ranked at 171st out of 177 on the gross domestic product scale which shows a very weak economy. Ethiopia is a democratic republic which means that people vote but it is suspected that Ethiopia has a corrupt government. Many of the citizens of Ethiopia are living in poverty and are poorly educated.  In Ethiopia there is very little education on HIV/AIDS a sexually transmitted disease (STD) because there are not enough resources to teach about it. Ethiopia was the only country that wasn’t affected by the scramble for Africa except for 5 years when it was ruled by Italy, which means that a lot of original tradition was retained.

Poverty is described as having an income of less than $1 per day. People who are in poverty have very few resources and some have to travel six hours to get clean drinking water. Most mothers are over worked. Most live off food scraps and rubbish and there is absolutely no sanitation. A lot of people who live in poverty also live without shelter on the streets or in gutters. Most of the time People who are in poverty don’t get an education, so they are doomed to stay in that financial position. Some reasons behind poverty include: being born into poverty and not having a good enough education to get out of the position, making terrible life choices, and also having a corrupt government.

Why eliminate poverty? Without poverty the world would be a better place. People would not have to live without food. People would not have to live in the street and gutters. People in poverty would not have to be doomed to that position that their ancestors had got them into. There would be equality amongst women and men.

Who would benefit from the eradication of poverty? The people who would benefit from the eradication of poverty would be everyone: the people who are in poverty won’t have to live in terrible conditions. Some of the terrible conditions include: no education, poor or no sanitary system, little or no food, scarce water, no or very limited income, and also little or no shelter. The governments of the world because the governments wouldn’t have to worry about the financial status of little countries like Cambodia and the democratic republic of Congo.
