Poverty in Ethiopia
An outline why ethiopia in in poverty.
In September 2000 the United Nations set a group of goals to help in the eradication of poverty by 2015 these goals were called the millennium development goals. The millennium development goals are:
1. To eradicate hunger, because no human deserves to go hungry just because he/she was unlucky enough to be born into poverty. Over 1.5 billion people in the world live in poverty almost 6 times the population of Australia
2. To have a universal education system no matter whether male or female everyone has the right to a proper education. Over 73 million children are not enrolled in school that’s almost a bit over 3 times the population of Australia.
3. To promote gender equality, because men and women aren’t that different. Girls account for 55% of unenrollment in developing countries.
4. To improve child health, because children are our future. Children in a developing country are 13 times more likely to die before they are five than in an industrialized country.
5. To improve the maternal health of women. It is estimated that every minute one woman dies from child birth/pregnancy related complications which equates to approximately 500,000 deaths per year while 99% of the deaths are in developing countries.
6. To combat and reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS and malaria every day approximately 7500 people are diagnosed with HIV and over 2500 die from AIDS.
7. To create environmental sustainability so that the other generations can have resources. 2.5 billion People do not have access to sanitation systems and 1 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water.
8. To have international harmony.
In conclusion Ethiopia is in poverty because of: the fact that it is a desolate mostly uninhabitable country, the spread and the lack of prevention of HIV/AIDS, the corrupt government and the lack of drinking water. A solution would be to teach about HIV/AIDS and the dangers of it, give free drinking water and to set up permanent shelters for those that need it. So in conclusion if the above items are fixed Ethiopia should be able to bring its population out of poverty.
