Power Hungry

Is Power a good or a bad thing for a country? There are many bad things that can happen to a country; poverty, war, natural disasters are just some of the few that stand out above most. But, there is a time when a country can go terribly wrong. This time is when the government turns into a dictatorship. A dictator is someone who has absolute power over a government. Which means a dictatorship is when that one power hungry human takes over the country, that’s when things can sometimes go horribly wrong. It is the worst thing that can happen to a government.

There have been many dictators in the history of the world. Some have had minor problems, but most have gone bad like Than Shwe, Omar al-Bashir, and Adolf Hitler. A dictatorship can result in many bad things like death and poverty. Omar al-Bashir is the dictator of Sudan. He made himself president and took over all of the government. He has killed around 350,000 people and controls 40 million people, which is 0.5% of the world population. There are also millions of hungry people living in Sudan right now because they live in western Sudan, also known as Darfur. This shows the amount of power one dictator can have.

You are probably wondering what happens to all the people being controlled. They can have all there wealth taken away from them, have there rights taken away from them, or even die. In the China’s cultural revolution many people had there rights taken away from them. In the book Red Scarf Girl, many rights are violated to Ji-li and her family. Her Uncle is beaten and tortured which is a violation of article 5. Peoples houses were searched for no reason sometimes which is violating article 12, which states No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honor and reputation. This is also violated with Da-zi-bao because it is unfair to attack your honor or reputation. There were many more violations broken in this struggle, but it shows that corrupt governments usually invade peoples rights which is very unfair.

It is hard to say how dictators find there way to the top position. Some rig the votes, while others pretend to be doing a good thing, even thought its not true.

There are many different powerful humans that find there way to the top position of there government. In the book Animal Farm, There is a semi-steady government going on at the animal farm. But, every thing turns around once Napoleon (Power hungry) convinces all the animals that Snowball (previous “president”) is bad and that if they want fairness he should become a leader. After Snowball is kicked out Napoleon takes over as the leader of animal farm. Napoleon starts changing the animals rights and forming different social classes. By the end of the book Napoleon has fully taken over, killed innocent people, and almost starved the field workers! Napoleon the dictator took over the government and now it is a huge mess. This is what happens in stories and in real life.

A government with a small leadership can be good most of the time. But, when that power hungry human blindsides the government, the country is burned to the ground with thousands of deaths and millions left hungry. This is why a dictatorship never works and why so many countries are corrupted with poverty and hunger. This is the reason why power is a bad thing.
