Presidential Candidates 2012

It can be pretty confusing to remember everyone’s opinions in the midst of all the politics. Here’s a run down for each.

(Rep.) Rick Perry: Perry has conservative values.  Perry said, “I am a conservative of conviction, not convenience.  As president, I will take a wrecking ball to the Washington establishment and get government out of the way so we can get America working again.”  He wants to cut taxes and repeal Obamacare.

(Rep.) Buddy Roemer: Roemer has served as a governor and a congressman.  As president, Roemer plans to balance the budget and create more jobs for Americans.  Roemer also wants to reform tax policies, strengthen national defense, secure energy independence, reform health care, and fix immigration.  He believes that each state should have the right to decide whether or not to allow same-sex marriages.  Roemer is also an advocate of gun rights.

(Ind.) Joe Schriner: Schriner’s slogan is “Common man, common sense, uncommon solutions”.  Schriner said, “I told the Lancaster Eagle Gazette that the reason I am running for president is that I am a concerned parent.  That is, I don’t want to leave the world of climate change, war, abortion, rural and inner city poverty, violent streets, nuclear proliferation, astronomical national debt, little social security, dwindling access to healthcare to our children.  What sane parent would?”  Schriner is no newcomer; he has run for president each time since 2000.  His platform is all about simplicity and family values.

(Rep.) Mitt Romney: Romney said, “When generations of immigrants looked up and saw the Statue of Liberty for the first time, they surely had many questions and doubts about the life before them, but one thing they knew without a doubt is that they were coming to a place where anything was possible – that in America, their children would have a better life.  I believe in that America…. A nation where innovation and hard work propel the most powerful economy in the world.  A land that is secured by the greatest military the world has ever seen, and by friends and allies across the globe.”  Romney also wants Obamacare gone and will reduce regulations.

(Rep.) Rick Santorum: Santorum has started what he calls the “Faith, Family and Freedom” Tour.  Santorum wants Obamacare to be repealed; to have more jobs, the nuclear threat in Iran stopped, and all corruption to be gone.  He is also against same sex marriage.

There are still many candidates in the running for the 2012 election.  Most candidates have established websites and are asking for donations for their campaigns.  Many have not made known what their positions are on certain “hot button” topics such as abortion or same sex marriage.  As the year progresses, the race for president will become more intense and more information on each of the many candidates will surface.
