Who do you think should be allowed in our public housing system?
I live in Australia in the state of South Australia. I have been listening to the radio over recent weeks and have taken note a lot of issues which have been taking place over the issue of who should be allowed in public housing.
There has been a lot of uproar over the fact, prisoners are getting priority housing opportunities over those who really need it, such as people who have disabilities, carers, and other people who are suffering from other illnesses.
My Question is, Why are people who are released from prison being allowed to have housing before those people who really do need it?
Why should people who have committed crimes, be looked after by the government before anyone else? I mean hello? Wake up Australia!!!! I do however take the understanding, people who have been in jail can still be a danger to the community and may need help finding accommodation, but why take away housing for the general population?
Something needs to be done, because it just can’t keep going on like this anymore.
What really gripes me off is, there are public houses which are left empty for weeks, months and even years, until the houses are housed again. All while the houses are left to rot and vandalised.
Will this ever improve because I certainly hope so. There are parents out there with children who are living in sheds, waiting for public housing. There are people who are homeless, who have been waiting for a number of years for public housing. For years!!
Come on The Government of South Australia, lets do something about this, lets make public housing more accessible for all of us
