Rape: The Coldest, Cheapest Weapon of War in the Congo

The war in the Congo has been ragging on for 6 years in this time it is estimated that 4.7 million people have been killed this is the highest amount of fatalities in any conflict since world war II. Yet nothing is being done to bring this to an end.

So much more is going on inside the Congo people are dying of starvation, preventable diseases and Infection being brought on by rape. Some are killed as soon as they have been raped. Children as young as 2 years old are being taken from their homes and gang-raped. But you don’t have to be young to be raped women as old as 70 are being taken and raped.  Girls of 8-19 years old are raped and then sent to become sex slaves. As long as you are female you have no rights. How is this aloud to go on??.

Here is a story of a six year old girl who was playing outside her home, when armed militia appeared. They dragged off the terrified child, kicking and screaming. When the militia where happly in the bush, they pinned down the child and took it in turns to rape her, after the attack they militia left the girl to die in the bush. The girl stayed laying where she had been left,  how long she layed there for no one knows. All that is known is when the girl was found she was bleeding from multiple wounds and close to starvation. It was then found out that the whole of the girls village had been compleatly wiped out. At the hospital the girl could not walk nor could she talk. Doctors had to work for hours to surgically repair all the damage that had been done to the girl. But they will never be able to mentally repair the child.

The rebels want to kill us, but it’s far more painful to kill the spirt instead. Stated one victim.

Another victim who was 70 years old told how she was grabbed from her home. They tied my legs apart and then raped me, one after the other the victim said. But they did not stop there she continued , They then started to push sticks inside me until i fainted. During the attack my husband , five sons and three daughters were murdered. They took everything from her there was nothing left for them to take. After they victim was left bleeding and a massive fistula where her bladder had been torn.
