Ready for prime time: In search of bin Laden…
Given the almost daily problems cropping up for our President, and whitlling away at his popularity level, will it surprise anyone if Osama bin Laden is suddenly “captured.”
In a déjà vu-esque repeat of the Vietnam era, the war in Iraq is severely dividing the country. Even the President’s own Republican Party is split on the war and public support is dwindling at breakneck speed. Meanwhile, we are sacrificing the very principles we espouse as a people by unleashing the CIA to torture our "enemies" as part of the War on Terrorism being fought in our name.
The Intelligence community itself seems to be in consensus that rather than quelling the fires of jihad, the Iraq war has just fed the hatred of the US among Muslim militants. What few alliances the US maintains are becoming shakier by the day. In the eyes of Europe and much of the rest of the world, we are becoming even " Uglier Americans ," if you can imagine such a thing.
A Canadian citizen who, based on accusations that he was a terrorist, was deported to Syria at the request of the CIA. He confessed, by the way, but only after being held and tortured in a Syrian dungeon for over two years.
Why should we care? Because he has now been cleared of all charges and his only "crime" seemed to be one of "guilt by association" because he supposedly knew one or more "confirmed terrorists."
Is it any small wonder that public opinion polls place our President at his lowest approval level ever?
What to do, what to do?
Ah yes… seems like it’s just about time for … another Osama sighting.
Yeah, that’s the ticket.
