Reasonable Doubt Gone Wild!

Garbage in – Garbage out? Legal lies!

OK…

If I’m not mistaken – it was the National Enquirer that found the picture of OJ that could have and should have proved him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of double murder.

The ridiculed, reviled  ‘ragmag’ found a photo of him wearing the exact ‘ugly ass’ Bruno Magli shoes OJ swore – from the stand – under oath – that he had never owned and would never be caught, er, dead – wearing.

The exact same size and style of sole that matched bloody footprints at the crime scene.

Unfortunately – it was just a moment too late. The American Judicial System – embodied in a jury of his, um,  peers – had already found him not guilty and he was allowed to RUN – not walk – to the nearest golf course to begin his tireless search for the real killer. Uh-huh…

Star struck by the shock and awe antics, tactics, theatrics, dramatics, pomp and flair of OJ’s uber-slick, uber-hollywood, uber flashy ‘Dream Team’ – the combination of dazzling lights, famous faces, and fancy footwork clearly had a numbing effect on the brains of the jury!

Flash forward SIXTEEN years to 2011 and the Casey Anthony debacle..

Same games. Same outcome. BUT – 16 years more evolved, refined, outrageous, and, ‘unjust-ifed’!

The garbage in/garbage out defense strategy - who’s term was coined during the OJ trial – was on display in such blatant, bloated proportion – that it is difficult to comprehend that such crap is condoned in court of law!!

Can a defense lawyer really just stand up and spout off…ANYTHING? About anyone? And never have to prove, defend, or uphold his own words, statements, and accusations?

Can he/she really just ruin reputations? Destroy lives? Accuse others of atrocious crimes – simply with the Intention of creating reasonable doubt – and NEVER back up one single word?

Is this justice? Or just law?

While I realize that the burden of proof is on the prosecution - why is it that said prosecution has to stick to the facts and details, and the defense can simply state outright that the world is flat, or that a father sexually abused his daughter, or, or, or – without any factual parameters whatsoever?

A few brilliant lawyers up against twelve regular folk, who probably have no real idea of how to separate regular doubt from reasonable doubt.

Sigh.

So, IS this justice? Or just Law? A law that has been twisted, stretched, and abused to the point that maybe – just maybe – someone should take a look at the effect it’s having on actual justice!

Maybe then, law and justice can come a little closer together?

Yeah! Justice and the law – together as ONE!
