Rise in Home Invasions Due to Poor Economy

As the economy fails to improve, robberies and home invasions are on the rise.

At 4 am I was woke up by my trusted dog Snoop with his growling under his breath. Normally I could investigate and discover that three cats my neighbor abandoned when she left were on the porch wanting something to eat. But this morning when I looked out the front door there were no cats. Concerned I tried to go back to sleep, but my imagination would not let me do it. The night before at 2:30 am I woke up to someone banging on the door. After retrieving my pistol I could not find anyone in the area.

With the news reports, not only here in my home city, but all around the nation an increase in home invasions are on the rise and so a person cannot be too careful. On New Years Eve in Oklahoma a young widow shot one of two men that broke into her house wielding knives. After loosing her husband during the Christmas holidays, she did what she had to do to save her and her young child’s life. She took a life to save her own. No problem with that.

But as our government officials continue to play games with our economy in order to secure votes for the upcoming presidential election, crime escalates and sometimes people do die. This reality does not concern Washington, D.C. but does pose a problem for the rest of the country. Our politicians continue to attempt to pass legislation to limit the average citizen from protecting their family’s lives. Why should they care? Many of them have federal protection that we do not have.

I have been lucky in a way that some will argue with. I joined the National Rifle Association many years ago and learned not only how to safely use a firearm, but also advanced to be quite proficient. You could say this was good, and bad.  The bad part was what it got me into in my younger years. The good thing was that I was fortunate to train under some of the best firearm experts in the nation.

For the average gun owner that is put in a situation of protecting their family, the one concept that is most important is simple. You own a gun, but if you cannot pull the trigger, then that gun will most likely be the weapon that kills you. It is a state of mind.

While most Americans would prefer not to shoot anyone, if they wind up into the situation of protection the decision has to be made. Very simple. Do what you have to do to survive. If you cannot pull the trigger on an evasion of your home then you do not need to have a gun. Many states have changed laws allowing innocent homeowners to protect their families without prosecution. But it still comes down to the ability to kill a human being.

When I used to train people how to shoot, I used to preach “The Finale.” The Finale is simple also. When a bullet is fired, it will hit something. If the gun is fired pointing in the air, the bullet will come back to earth striking something. It may be a tree, a house, or in recent situations, it will hit an innocent person. It is guaranteed to hit something even if it is just the earth. Pointing a gun at someone does not mean that they will retreat and leave your property. Some people have no sense. But when the trigger is pulled, it is final. Whether or not it hits someone or not, it will hit something.

So my little bit of advice is this. If you are not committed, which is a hard decision to make, then you do not need a gun for protection. If you can’t come to the reality that you might have to shoot someone, go spend a few thousand dollars and get a well-trained dog. A good dog will not have to pause and make a decision. He will act out of love to protect his family.

The only way that many of these crimes will stop is too get someone responsible to run our country that will produce jobs so these criminals will not have to invade your home to survive. Think about this when it comes time to vote.
