Rising Sea Levels in Shanghai

Due to the fact that shanghai is not situated high below sea level, it has an extreme high risk of getting flooded due to the fact it is near the ocean and lies barely above sea level. The second reason why shanghai is likely to go under the sea is that China manufactures a lot of our world’s greenhouse gases and that shanghai is the biggest city in china. This means that shanghai is actually speeding up global warming causing ice caps to melt thus flooding shanghai.

A great deal of china’s economy would collapse as shanghai is a pretty important part of china’s economy. A lot of ships and businesses are located at shanghai and if it disappeared under the devastating sea, china would lose a great deal of money, goods and trades.

Residents of china would also be squashed up even more as a chunk of china’s land would be removed when the sea engulfs it. China is already having problems with the population of 1.3 billion people and the place is already squashed. Imagine fitting the same amount into a smaller land. That would mean catastrophe.

China would also be going to be paying heaps of money to have shanghai restored. This would go into the billions and would render the Chinese without hardly any money left. Citizens of great density will also have to be evacuated into several buildings sets up by the Chinese government. This costs a great deal of money. Also after having a catastrophic flooding, many people would probably be dead, injured all sick. This will cost a lot of money in medical care to treat every one of them. This wouldn’t be possible due to china’s massive amount of population meaning many would just suffer and die.

A natural disaster would be occurring too as temperatures to different parts of china could be effected by the ocean breezes that will be closer to the cities. It could kill off a lot of rare species. Shanghai would also lose their unique species and if they migrant to other cities, it is most likely they will die off due to new predators or unsuitable climate.

China are currently getting shanghai to build a sea gate that is supposed to stop the waters from rushing into shanghai. This might be an idea plan but it will cost china at least 1.5 billion dollars to construct these massive sea gates. It would also render shipping inconveniences too.

Another way is to stop global warming in order to stop the ice caps from melting so the sea wouldn’t flood shanghai. It is also a good way because it will remove a lot of the pollution from the world. The bad thing about it is that china needs massive amounts of energy to run its country so cutting pollution would be a bit hard.

Another method is to get the entire world to play their bit in helping global warming stop. This is by far one of the most effective ways and it will give the environment a good help. This method can also reduce extinction to species and many other things happening to the environment.

The last method is to plant a lot of trees, and I mean A LOT, in order to consume a great percentage of the world’s carbon dioxide. As you all know, trees take in carbon dioxide and give oxygen to us. This will help greatly reduce the effects of factories, cars and etc.
