Russia & China Veto UN Resolution Problem Syria, U.S. Angry.

Susan Rice (Reuters) New York – The UN Security Council has failed to approve a resolution that condemned the Syrian government over the handling of anti-government demonstrations. This failure is due to Russia and China vetoed the resolution. This gives rise to anger the United States government.
Ambassador (Ambassador) U.S. to UN Susan Rice said Washington was angered by the failure of the UN Security Council. Rice asserted, this failure will not make the UN Security Council give up. In fact, Rice said, it is time for the UNSC to adopt tough sanctions against Syria.
“The crisis in Syria will remain on the front of the Security Council and we will not stop until this council rise to meet its responsibilities,” the U.S. diplomat said as quoted by Reuters news agency on Wednesday (05/10/2011).
It was announced by Rice in front of the 15-member UN Security Council after Russia and China vetoed a draft resolution proposed European. In the UN Security Council vote, a resolution that condemned the Syrian government for the violence against the demonstrators carried the authority was approved by the nine member countries.
While the four countries abstained choose, namely Brazil, India, Lebanon and South Africa. But the two countries: Russia and China use their veto to derail the resolution drafted by France, together with Britain, Germany and Portugal it.
France’s UN Ambassador Gerard Araud also criticized the use of the veto. “This veto will not stop us,” he said. “No veto can provide full power on the Syrian authorities,” he said.
However, Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin insisted in front of the UN Security Council members, the Russian government strongly opposed the threat of sanctions against Syria. It said Churkin, the Russian government was worried the resolution would open opportunities for military intervention as practiced in Libya.
Chinese Ambassador Li Baodong also emphasized, the Beijing government opposes the idea of ”intervention on the Syrian domestic affairs”.
To obtain approval, this resolution must receive majority support without any veto from permanent members of UNSC. This resolution is designed to pressure Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
