Safer Internet Day

Judging from the amount of Internet Troll activity, and spam and hoax re-posting on sites like Facebook and on just about every open Forum on the Internet, I think that Safer Internet Day is good, but that we need to promote staying safe on the Internet all year round.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Internet can be a good thing and a bad thing.  I use Facebook but notice that although I post Warnings from Sophos Naked Security and Facecrooks that people on there do not heed the warnings.  I recently had one rude, headstrong idiot argue that a hoax about hovering over and un-subscribing worked.  The hoax message is usually phrased “Do me a favour folks: Hover over my name”  It goes on to mention In a “you’ll see a box that says “subscribed.” Hover over that and then go to “comments and likes” and un-click it.”  The status claims that this will stop “my posts and yours to me from showing up on the side bar” (referring to the Facebook Ticker panel)  “for everyone to see and limits hackers from invading our profiles.”  None of it limits hackers from invading people’s profiles.  Hackers don’t even need to if they or anyone can post to your Wall or Timeline.  Think about it!  But, the hoax status sounds polite and helpful as it usually says “If you re-post this I will do the same for you. Thanks everyone.”  The ticker on the top right side on Facebook will ALWAYS show what is said unless your settings prevent that meaning that only Friends can see and not Friends of Friends.  What if one of your Friends has 2,000 Friends and you think you posted something semi-private and a bit personal?  That’s a lot of potential viewers. The hoax status wastes a LOT of peoples time and gives them a false sense of security as they think they have privacy which they don’t.  Don’t believe everything everyone says – just check your own Privacy Settings and be sure you don’t post personal things in anything but personal messages.

I HATE FACEBOOK SCAMS http://webupon.com/social-networks/oh-no-another-facebook-scam/

NEVER POST PERSONAL THINGS ON OPEN GROUPS either as the Facebook Trolls surf all day looking for victims to target on Open Groups and Tribute Pages.  I spotted an Open Group for ladies who had miscarried or had still births.  I spoke to one I knew posting there because I can guarantee you that if the Trolls found that one was open for anyone to join and post in they would be posting photos of dismembered abortions with hurtful captions on there… to say the least.  They do much, much worse.  If anyone is Troll posting Report and Block immediately.  Do not respond.

It’s a shame that there is always someone trying to take the peace of others, then, call it ‘fun.’ Gosh, I can think of things that are way more fun to do. I never use my real name on the internet, socially. I don’t do the repost thing, unless it’s for a worthy cause like ‘Cancer Awareness.’ And, I am not on FB long enough to get trolled, I usually ignore them – It irritates them and they go a way. LOL And there is always the delete button.

I never understand why some people make it their life’s work to cause problems for other people. There are really some jerky folks out there.

This is one of the downside (internet) social sites. People want to spoil other’s life and happiness.

the best way on internet is strong firewall with all realtime protections and extra strong antivirus with all realtime antispam antivirus… protections. facebook is one OF NOT safest places. That can i say for sure. People watch out what links you click on mail or on other sites
