Seal Clubbing
An article on the effects on seal clubbing…
Seal clubbing has become a very important and personal issue to many Canadian’s. Although people may feel they have very little say in the seal hunt, there is actually a lot that a person can do to try to prevent brutal slaughtering the seal hunt causes. Currently there are petitions to prevent seal clubbing that are approaching the 150, 000 signature mark filled with people very passionate about this issue. Inuit people kill these seals to provide for themselves and their families. Of all the seals killed only 3% are killed by the natives. As a Canadian citizen you should not be blaming the seal hunt on the Inuit people but rather on the commercial hunters instead. People have the option of boycotting against the clubbing of seals by not buying the products that are made by seals. Sadly enough some of these people who are complaining about how barbaric the seal hunt is are actually fueling the market for seal products by buying products made from seals. Certain nutritional supplements are made from a seals fat and oil. Other products should be more obvious such as seal fur coats, waterproof seal boots or seal fur mittens should all be avoided if a person wants to boycott against seal clubbing. Another way for a citizen to try and end the seal hunt is to persuade companies such as Red Lobster who buy Canadian seafood to serve in their restaurant to boycott against all Canadian seafood until the seal massacre is over. Like all businesses, the seal hunt runs on supply and demand. As consumers decide to boycott against Companies who contribute to the seal hunt, demand will decrease. As demand decreases fewer and fewer seals will be needed to be clubbed to feed the demand and ultimately allowing for the seal clubbing massacre to end.
