Stem cell research. A very controversial issue but for what reason? Stem cells renew themselves through mitotic division and can basically turn themselves into other types of body cells. They can be cells for your spinal cord or muscle cells with a huge variety in between. There are two types of stem cells. There are embryonic stem cells that can differentiate into different specialized cells and then there are adult stem cells which are used to repair the body.

Stem cells can be grown and made into a specialized cell through cell culturing and can be put into a body that needs it. They take the cells from human embryos which is what causes all the controversy surrounding stem cell research. There are many people that have the pro-life stance and the argument they use is that all life is important including the life of an embryo. People also argue that stem cell research may lead to reproductive cloning which will devalue life.

I personally think that stem cell research is a great idea. With consent, researchers should be able to use embryos. I am also pro-choice in the abortion issue and think that if somebody is going to get an abortion, they might as well help man-kind while they are at it. I may post something on my opinions about abortions later on but most likely I only will if I get comments asking for it.
