I really respect the ideas presented by both sides of the topic, but this article is so biased, cold, and lacks any lobical reasoning. What do you mean that one will get poorer if they have babies, so question…why did they choose to have sexual intercourse in the first place, because you know that is what sexual intercourse is about….believe it or not… to have babies. I mean first off I agree with Jonathon that you have to work hard and second off, if one is worried about the family income, why have sex in the first place? use a condom or other birth control methods….not killing another potential life.

I believe strongly that in some cases abortion should be allowed. But even I, someone who is partially for abortions would have to agree and say that this article is the reason many feel abortions should be illegal. Not wanting to supply for a child, the child you chose to concieve is no excuse for aborting it. And to say that bringing in life is eventually leading to overpopulation? Children are god’s blessings. I believe that abortions should be allowed just because I believe that if they were illegal it would be basically forcing an unwanting mother to have a child that she is dreading, and that is no way to bring a child onto this earth. Also it would be a serious safety hazard considering many women would try to proceed with illegal abortions causing additional hazards. All the time at the hospital I work at, the young girls who are pregnant always ask me if I think they should abort their baby. This is not my choice. It is theirs. They may have gotten raped or simply didn’t use birth control, but it is THEIR body, therefore it is their descision. Personally, I think abortion should be allowed, because, as Hannah said, it may be murder, and it just may be heartless, but it is not our choice.

I bet that half of you that say abortion should not be allowed are religous. Being religous should not stand in the way of such an important and independant decision.

I have to say some of you got very valid points. And some of you some not so valid points. I personally believe that abortion should be allowed. I just don’t think that any form of government should be able to make such a decision for any female especially in the U.S. I believe abortion should be an available option for any person who seeks to do so. Abortion should be allowed as indicated in certain cases. It is considered murder only after a certain period of a fetus development, not before. Ignorance is rampant in this field. The choice is definitely the mother’s. When the fetus has developed its brain functioning (8 weeks) to abort the fetus would be murder except in cases or mother’s imminent death, severe genetic abnormality, and or some other reason that is crucial to the well-being of the mother or the family.

Life in the wild isn’t more then on going reactions, some stop, some don’t. Abort should stop after a certain number of months.

I understand that if you are raped as a young girl, you couldn’t cope with it…. but there are more options then killing the baby, you could give the child up for adoption. Often times after the girl has the abortion, she never forgets. Lets say later in life when she can cope with it, and has a kid, she will always remember the other baby she could have had. I pity not just the babys life, but the mothers.

I totally agree with you. Abortion should be legal. And to Sandrine: It isn’t murdering a baby for something it didn’t do, it is extracting a fetus from a woman’s body. It’s just a clump of cells. Every time a woman has their…monthly flush, they are “murdering” the eggs. Most of the eggs are in fact fertilized by the way.

Yea, Abortion. Aborton should always be allowed. It is not murder, because well the baby is not born. Unless it is a fetus. Now let me remind you of how ignorant most people are. Pregnant at 17 and wanting an abortion is another thing, but being raped at 16 and pregnant is when you either decide you want this child that actually is not yours and has no father and spending your entire life trying to piece back your life / Or / having an abortion and trying to get over the mental aspect. People in this thread have said that it’s not acceptable to abort a baby just because you don’t want one. This is a legitimate statement, but I urge posters to consider the fact that just because the baby is not aborted, doesn’t mean that baby is going to be cared for.

The baby could be put into an adoption center, where she/he may have to wait a significant length of time to be adopted. If the baby is not adopted, and the parents are ill-prepared to care for the baby, be ready as a taxpayer to fully support that child through welfare.

Are you all about your taxpaying dollars going to needy people that shouldn’t have had kids in the first place? I don’t think it’s the responsibility of the American public to support that child, when all logic and reason has suggested that those parents are unable to provide an adequate amount of care.

And seeing as how procreation was forced upon her, I believe she should have the right to choose whether or not she wants that life to be brought into the world as a constant reminder of what happened. What if the child faces child cruelty during their first years. In this case, abortion should be allowed. Other things such as paralysis and other life-threating factors that the baby is vulnerable to/ have already obtained gives another reason why abortion should be allowed, to prevent the child from going through unnecessary pain.
