Sleeping with Corpse to Appease THE Gods:

The essay sheds light on how HIV gained ground in KENYA. NYANZA PROVINCE IN PARTICULAR.

As scientists are still working hard to find a breakthrough to the HIV/AIDS pandemic the concern for every one is how the spread can be tamed so as the HIV unaffected individuals stay virus free. However, this still tremains a global challenge

Somwhere in kenya, the culture has been a good ambassador for HIV in its quest for humankind. The majority community habouring this region have diverse culture and are known to be keen on bowing to norms and practrices of the community to the latter. These norms are viewed to so gross that once you disobey one you are not only commiting yourself to misfortunes but also your forthcoming and presnt generation.

Ther funny thing with these norms is that they are squared on the bed,for instance in every farming season the grandma is the supposed to be the first one to sow”seed removal” whereby the grandma and her husband are required to make love in the previous night to the sowing date, these “removals” are a channel of activities through out the farming season i.e hoe removal, seed removal, yield romoval. The younger ones are not supposed to precede the elder ones in any of the above removals.

The worst of them all is wife inheritance where a widow is mandated by norms to get a second husband. This where HIV found its best associate in its desire to dwell in human’s system. This practice is occassioned by a ceremony where all elders in the kinship  gather to witness the “successor” sleep with the widow and verify if he ejaculated. This process duly completed entitles the woman to new sex life otherwise the woman binds all her generation to non inheritence. The most bizzare one is when the woman dies before going through this exercise a man is hired to sleep with the corpse so as to free the next generation.

Culture as it exist in Africa was the main cause of the HIV prevalence
