Society and Crime

How should society deal with criminal elements?

I recently heard about something called a “scale of evil” on the Discovery channel. It supposedly has 22 points, I’d say however that this “scale” is fallacious. Evil is Evil, one murderer is as bad as another, one rapist as guilty as the next. As I’ve heard it said, whether or not a person calls a homicide first, second, or third degree murder, it doesn’t make the victim any less dead.

Wake up people, we as a society need to start calling people out on their behavior and holding them accountable rather than creating “degrees” of guilt and excuses.

The “degree” system has caused our society’s criminal element to be emboldened, how? Because they know for some crimes they’ll be able to get off easy. I say if we would get serious about justice, there’d be a lot less crime.

How would I deal with the criminal elements you might ask, and so I’ll tell you my thoughts on the subject.     I  say instead of having tax funded prisons, we instead have work-camp prisons where the term “If you don’t work, you don’t eat” means exactly that.

In other words instead of taxpayers having to spend hard earned money supporting prisoners, the prisoners will have to support THEMSELVES.  You may call that harsh, but I say why should we law abiding citizens have to pay (literally) just because certain undesirable elements in our society have chosen to break the law?

Get Real.

We as a society have grown soft on most crime, this is pathetic and needs to be addressed. Using things like the insanity defense gives even MORE leeway to criminals. As the old saying goes, “give a man enough excuses and he can talk his way out of anything”.

Sorry for the long-winded nature of this piece, but I felt I needed to address this issue.

I agree. I think that prisoners already do some work to earn cigarette money, they should have to work to compensate their victims and reduce insurance costs. Also, I think that the courts should spend less time debating whether someone who admits guilt or was caught red handed should be held accountable for their actions.
