Speaking Out Against Animal Abuse
My pets were abused by a neighbor I thought I could trust.

It all started this Fourth of July weekend when my boyfriend and I decided to spend the weekend at his uncle’s house to go and see fireworks and just get away to have a good time. It was our first real Fourth of July together, even though we have been together for three years. Everything seemed to be going good, until the day we left his house to return to ours. We got home and as soon as we pulled up, our neighbor came up to us and told us he couldn’t find any of our pets. We left him in charge of watching them for us while we were gone.

Not knowing what we were in for, we hurried into the house to see what he was talking about. We looked and called for them but none of them came out. Then my boyfriend lifted a chair to find our newest cat dead. I freaked out and ran into another room, terrified to see what else we would find. There were still two cats missing that my boyfriend couldn’t find. One was a loving, trusting beautiful cat my family and I had for nine years. Then there was our other cat that my boyfriend and I found beat up and in bad shape when he was a kitten, so he was like our child.

He ended up finding the cat we had for nine years behind the couch where she always use to lay, so at first he thought she was alive but soon realized that she in fact wasn’t. When I thought there was just no hope of any of them being alive my boyfriend found our (basically child) cat locked in the bathroom scared and left for dead. Right then, even though I was so in shock and freaking out, I was glad that this cat was OK.

At first we had no idea what had happened, until we started to piece stuff together. There was stuff moved, the front door wasn’t shut right, the cat was locked in the bathroom and the only things missing in the whole house were two pillow cases off our pillows. Never in my worst nightmares did I ever want to believe someone could be so heartless and cruel. We couldn’t even find the pillow cases or prove what exactly happened.
