Speaking Truth to Power Pt One

 1.)  It is my sad responsibility to inform you that the drug problem in this country will never be solved with the current programs we have in place.

 2.) Do not let politicians scare you into tax increases for more police officers and expensive equipment to a job they can not or will not.

 3.) Consider that in any other expense you pay in life you expect results.If you paid your utility bill and came home and had no lights or gas you would be on the phone.Have that same view on your tax contribution.

 4.) Most major cities have 75 or more squad cars on patrol daily and employ 2,000 or more officers.This does not include helicopters,planes flying over head watching us,the boats floating by watching us,freeway patrol,motorcycle cops,cops on horseback,cops on bikes,cops on foot,the sheriff and his deputies,highway patrol,statepolice,swat,hostage negotiators,vice,homicide,bunko squad,pawn squad,special victims,gang squad,internal affairs, meter maids,traffic cameras,yet in most cities crime is only getting worse or has only marginally decreased.Some of us have turned to private security.What are we paying for? 

 5.) Also operating in most major cities DEA,FBI,CIA,NSA,Immigration,Border patrol,Secret Service,Military Intelligence,   U.S.Marshals,Homeland Security,even U.S.Customs and the U.S.Postal Service have paramilitary response teams.You are literally surrounded everyday by thousands of men and women with guns and badges.But do you feel safer?

 6.) And somehow we paid for our own torment because we have become the focus of the people we pay to protect us.At least 50% of your day in public you are being watched and or video tapped,wire tapping,bugging phones,            scanning our mail,tracking our inter net activities,tracking books we check out at the library,routine traffic stops,        sobriety checkpoints.

 7.) So do you feel safer in your homes? Do you feel safe when your children are playing outside? Are our children safe at school,church,childcare,playgrounds,parks and  after school programs?Every area of our lives seems to have a certain element of danger and or risk.So what have we paid for a piece of mind? Something is better than nothing?

 8.) I would however like to acknowledge the courage,dedication and integrity of what I consider to be our most efficient front line defenders in law enforcement and that is the United States Coast Guard.They dive head first into just about every disaster and seaborne rescue effort this nation encounters.They don’t go on strike for money and live us in harms way,they intercept tons of illegal drugs,they don’t wait around to build a case,they wait to be led to the big boss,they don’t allow criminals to get away with crime in exchange for information,they see a crime and they stop it.They do there job and they are extremely effective.And they still find time to keep the arctic sea lanes open and safe.God Love Em
