Spoon-Fed
Being spoon-fed means no job? Since when? Last time I checked I worked for everything I own.
In many arenas of conversation someone may tell you “what do you know, you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth.” If you don’t know what that means then I can tell you exactly what it means.
It is just another expression for the term “spoon-fed”. All that means is that your parents tend to all your wants and needs. It may seem like “the good life”, but being spoon-fed isn’t so glamorous for all.
I am one of the people who are spoon-fed, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it a silver spoon. I would say mine is more wooden. Yeah, all I have to do is ask my parents for something and then I have it, but I also have what is called non- monetary responsibilities. In order to get what I want I have to keep my grades up in my honors classes, do well in my sports, do chores, and take care of my little sister. If my grades fall below a B, if I have any NHI’s, or any F’s on any assignment my parents put me on restriction and I can’t go anywhere or do anything until my grades are back up to where they are supposed to be. Another one of my responsibilities for being spoon-fed is to keep ahead in my sports. My parents are always telling me to apply myself as much as I can.
No, I don’t have a job and no, I don’t pay in cash for a car insurance or gas money, but I do have to pay by doing chores. I have to help around the house, keep my room clean, tend to the dog, occasionally cook, and much more. Yeah, a job does provide a great lesson in responsibility, but so does the weight of your younger sibling’s life. Ever since I can remember there have been times when I have had to play “mom” to my younger sister. I have had to make sure she showers and every morning I need to make sure she gets to school on time. I cannot leave for my zero hour class until she has gone off to school. If she doesn’t get to school on time or at all I get into trouble because my parents leave too early in the morning for work to do that themselves.
So, I wouldn’t say that I’m handed the world on a silver platter because I have just as much responsibility as the next person. I work hard to get what I want and I have earned it.
