Is it right or wrong?
Stem cell research has always been a major controversy because it involves the usage and destruction of the human embryo. Many people, including George Bush, cannot accept this and do not support it. Despite this, stem cell research has the potential to undoubtedly save many lives.
Stem cells are unspecialized cells that have the potential to develop into any cell. Because of this, stem cells can be used to duplicate parts of your body. Stem cells can be used to create replacement organs for transplantation. Every time someone needs an organ, there would be no need to find a donor, and the patient would not have to receive further treatment or drugs because his immune system would accept the new organ. Doctors would be able to use stem cells to repair tissues that can’t heal on their own. Stem cell research can also be used to treat a variety of diseases, including diabetes, Parkinson’s, and heart disease. Stem cell research also has the ability to test millions of drugs without the use of animals or humans, erasing yet another problem we have. Lastly, stem cell research could be our key and solution to our fight against cancer.
Overall the benefits of stem cell research far outweigh the risks and consequences. While the destruction of an embryo is bad, it is not entirely killing life. Something that hasn’t been born into life isn’t considered to be of life is it? Lately, Robert Lanza, a biologist from Massachusetts has recently discovered a new way to create stem cells from a single cell, without destroying the embryo. This could possibly break the ethical and political debate on Stem cell controversy. While millions of people are suffering from diseases, birth defects, and conditions, stem cell research offers much promise in preventing and curing these handicaps. It can be used for dramatic medical treatments and miracles. Stem cell research can be used as the raw material to treat virtually any kind of human disease. Imagine a world where we have the ability to treat nearly every possible disease — that world can only be a possible with stem cell research.
