Stephen Hawking is Right: There is No God or Heaven

The famous theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking thinks there is no heaven and no afterlife and I agree with him. You may be disappointed by my thinking but that is the truth that we must deal with. Many ask themselves where people go when they die, or what happens after death and the answers I have to these may be shocking to some people.

Where is God?

Many people think that God is in heaven while the devil is in hell fanning some eternal fire that will burn George Bush Junior and others like him for a thousand years. Ask them why they think so or where heaven and hell are and they simply don’t understand. The answer they give is close to ‘I don’t know’ or ‘the preacher said so’ or ‘I believe in God’. These answers are not sufficient in themselves and need to be further investigated. Looking for God or the devil in the cosmos will not solve the problem and neither shall incessant talking of aliens out there in the galaxy for these things are actually in our minds; they are mental creations that exist yes, but only in our minds.

Is there life after death?

Yes and no. Yes for those who are remembered for their good deeds, they maintain a wonderful life after death but only in the minds of those who knew them. Their bodies rot into nothingness or are burned by their families into ashes to leave nothing worth ascending into heaven or descending into hell. The soul and the spirit which together form part of our very own existence must therefore remain in the minds of those who are living as subjects of whatever deeds that remind them of our existence.

Is the concept of God necessary?

Humans have questions and no answers. The concept of God provides the missing link to our questions and seeks to calm our minds in view of these questions. It is easier to supply the twin questions of good and evil with the answers God and the devil rather than filling in the blank spaces with many ‘I don’t knows’.

The problem with God

The only problem I find with the issue of God is the fact that it has been used as a scapegoat by religious and political leaders in the past to create a hell on earth for their people while promising them eternal rest in a non existent heaven away from their homes. When politicians and church mice grab our land and take away our property, they remind us that blessed are the poor, for they shall inherit the earth (when they die). When Osama bin Laden sends young men into war, he has to remind them not to fear death for if they die fighting infidels, they will go to heaven and get 72 hot virgins each.

Many priests and pastors don’t believe in the God they preach!

Many atrocities have been committed by the men of the cloth in the name of God. Many of those who rape and abuse innocent children still preach about good and evil, they still preach about God and use him to trap their innocent victims. Deep inside, they know they are lying and should be set on fire there and then, but they escape punishment by declaring that vengeance is the lords, he shall repay!

Let us build a heaven on earth

Think about poverty, disease and other natural and artificial calamities. Most of these things can be addressed right here, right now, but we are too selfish to focus on a heaven on earth and that is why we keep dreaming and thinking about what will happen when we die instead of living right and creating a heaven on earth and eradicating evil from our minds and souls. Stephen Hawking and other physicists may look for God elsewhere, they may go searching Mars and other planets, but he is there within them and nowhere else. When preacher men invite me to church, when they admonish me about hellfire, I invite them to my heart and soul and remind them where God should be. Somebody say Amen!

People need something to believe in and create their own form of spiritualty, whether it is church related or some other form. Good article. I look forward to reading the future responses posted here.

I personally believe in Creation and the Universe and finally I have someone who echoes my feeling and sentiment. Although I read about various religious sentiments, I do believe that we are the masters of our own destiny and it is our conscience that makes us what we are. But that said, religion forms the foundation on how we actually think and that is what kids of today need to have a strong foundation and then build on their values gradually. It helps create a distinction of good and evil.
There is evidence of a conscious existence of the supreme power that created the Universe and that is the power that I believe in. I am not religious but am spiritual but am not a hypocrite. Follow the Principle of Do as You would be Done By and You do things based on Creation… Its the law of life…
With regard to Stephen King, if he has the values he has, I salute him as his disability never stopped him from conquering the world and making a difference in others lives in a positive way.

I believe in God. I just think that the Father of Jesus Christ keeps us from the devils attacks. God is good all of the time.

    Psalm 125:4,5

Do good, O Lord, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts. As for those who turn aside to their crooked ways, the Lord shall lead them forth with workers of iniquity:but peace shall be upon Israel.

    …and the people of God.

no comments on this..however would like to share what I believe:
I am a body of energy and since energy cannot be destroyed, death will put an end to me or at least as I am known now, but the energy will continue in whatever transformed state it goes into..

Btw Sir, the fact is that the terrorists are told that they will get 72 hot virgins each and not 40 as mentioned in the article. And I appreciate your thoughts but personally, as even mentioned in the article, we humans need answers to our questions so the idea of God enters. An omnipresent energy that is always there with, or within us that guides us. So, my faith towards God cannot be shattered. I’m not discriminating God on basis of religions. I believe there is only One.
But since it is individual view point I like the article. :)

The scripture I left was referring to your last lines. Here is what has happened to the church, as a whole, has failed to bring the true message of Christ.

We were content to sit in the pews while the world went to pot. Now we will lash out at people like Hawking.

We are content to sit idly by as trashy, unholy, abominable popes and priests rape our children. We are content selling the Gospel to the highest bidder. We sit idly by and bask in church glory, meanwhile the world crumbles about us. Once we are saved we shut off the world and wait by a cozy fire for the Lord Jesus to come. O yes, the faithful may say Nay!!

Yet, at this point and time, the church needs to part seas, multiple bread loaves, and stop rainfall to gain credibility. What do you know! We need to show God\’s power at work just like Christ did.

For the faithful, I suggest we do what the Prophet Joel suggested in Joel 1:14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto the Lord.

Humanbeings can only think and act like humans. But for some they are ready to face the challenges in life boldly. A number of Y’s and there is no answer for them all. Why so many corruptions, cruelty and suffering.

Some people are physically challenged right from birth and they die at a very old age bearing all these suffering for years.

Y so much of cruelty, but these people are never punished. They live like kings exploiting the poor and most of them have a happy death.

The rest of the people live a god-fearing life, doing good to others and they are rewarded only a miserable life on earth.

Now where is god if he exists? Isn’t the duty of god to take care and protect his followers. This is natural for any human being to have these doubts. And even now there is NO answer. As the bible says ‘a true faithful christian has to bear his heavy cross wholeheartedly’ till the very end of his life, because the rewards of heaven are greater than on earth.’

    Do you agree?

I always say this to people who try to tell me God exists and we must do good.”I’m not sure about God’s existence, but I will do good because I feel peace and my heart smiles when I do good :)

Truth is no one (all humans) knows anything,we just predict and try to convince ourselves at times when we are in trouble that someone will come and take us out of our problems,he is god!

The more intelligent a person is, they less likely they are to beleive in God…

also I do want to point out ONE error.. nobody said the 40 virgins would be “hot” just that you get 40 virgins.

Good article. I partially agree with the comment about intelligence and believing in God. Though, I would rather say – the more intelligent the person, the less likely is he/she to follow any particular religion to the letter. After all, intelligent people ask questions and search for flaws in anything before believing in it. And all religions are full of flaws.
As for my beliefs, I wrote an article about that once I think. In short – I have no idea whether God (or Devil or whatever) exists and I don’t care :)

Btw, I see no reason why aliens would only be in our minds. They are not supposed to be some all-powerfull invisible being (like God/s), just species that evolved someplace else. Existence of such races is very likely. Though, I agree that incessant talking about them is rather pointless these days …

Btw, I totally agree with you that every believer fails to give satisfying explanation. Most just say that they believe because they know God exists (usually because their parents and preachers repeated it long enough). The ‘divine’ feelings that believers have are no proof too as feelings are only in our heads and are easy to influence … I could continue, but it is pointless to write an article-long comment :)

For a minute there I thought I flipped the wrong page or missed the name, but Yeh, its you alright, Jimmy, always spewing out some creative adrenalin to arouse some intellectual arguments. Unfortunately I would have passed on this on this one except for the final thought that God resides in your heart. Keep him there Bro. no matter what side of the argument others are on. There is an answer to all our questions, hell or heaven good or bad, we find our own answers in that same solitary place where God resides-your heart and mine.

I could tell you have no idea what you’re talking about from the very first sentance in this article.
“Many people think that God is in heaven while the devil is in hell fanning some eternal fire”

The devil is not in hell, the devil hates hell, he wants to stay out of it forever. He wants to get as many people to turn their backs on God just to bring God grief.

If there’s no God, how did the earth get here? How did the cells in your body arange themselves so perfectly to give you life, and mobility? Why are you so sure there is no God?

A Universal Statment, such as “there is no God” is impossible to support. In order to have the confidence to believe there is no God, one must be able to disprove every thing that supports the Bible. However, to have a faith in God one must only find one fact that supports God’s exsistance.

There are so many things that support God’s exsistance, and the Bible, that one must continually lie to him/herself to believe any thing else.

It is evident that you do not believe in God by the perverse writings you are willing to put your name on, and boast as “excelent reading material”.

You have your belief and for your sake I hope you are right. I really did not read your full article because it is based on the same old arguements we have had by many like you. But the reality is whether we deny God or not we show by our own actions His existence.

Some of your articles are motivated by money (like the sex ones) which with respect is your god. Others have adopted science or some other ism as their god. Whatever you are a slave of, is your god. But there is one true God who is all sufficienct and all knowing.

Anybody who says there is no God shows the height of arrogance because by stating that they suggest that they know everything and for that matter they are in effect god.

better believe in true nature than a virtual God, which has been created with human imagination. Stephen is not arrogant, as he accepts nature and it is okay to not accept God. No other creature is as silly as humans to run behind some imagination.

Why does Man take what God says and spin it around 180 degrees? “God created man” you spin it around and get “Man created God” If God didn’t exsist you wouldn’t either, Genisis 1:1
