Stolen Emails and Climate-gate

The scandal Climate-gate has done what all the former publicity about our warming planet couldn’t do. It has focused public attention on climate changes. But cast a bad light on scientists caught discussing flaws in their own evaluations. The stolen emails leave some interesting questions to be answered. Jane Lubchenco, who heads the National Oceanic and Atmohpheric Administration says, "Our collective information that is very diverse and gathered from multiple sources and multiple groups is not in doubt. The earth is definitely warming".

It all started with e-mails stolen from a research center in Britain, showing scientists discussing flaws in their own data, and it has brought public attention to climate change experts. The emails don’t provide any answers but they do raise a lot of interesting questions. Are the climate changes scientists warned about without just cause? Many people have thought exactly that and these emails have given them new fodder to chew on. It has blossomed into into what is being called “Climate-gate,” and in doing so has done what all the scientific talk could not do. It has brought the publics attention to the problem looming ahead of a warming planet.

The stolen electronic files include more than 1,000 emails and 3,000 documents, stolen from servers at the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in Britain. A message from the unit director, Phil Jones sent to a colleague stated he would hide a problem with data from Siberian tree rings with more accurate local air measurements. In another message Jones wrote about keeping research he disagrees with out of the U.N. report, “even if we have to redefine what the peer review literature is!” Jones has since stepped down. Now Pennsylvania State University wonders if an investigation is called for, especially since some of the emails were written by one of their own professors, Michael Mann. Mann says he or his colleagues did nothing improper.

The climate science data collectors, including the U.S. governments top scientists say nothing in the emails disproves their wealth of information stating that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are still gathering in the atmosphere and trapping more of the sun’s heat, and the consequences of that fact will still be dire. “This information that is very diverse and gathered from multiple sources and multiple groups is not in doubt. The earth is definitely warming.” said Jane Lubchenco, who heads the National Oceanic and Atmospheric administration.

It is up to everyone of us to do something. I wonder if very rich people will accept to reduce their standard of living. Excellent article and thought provoking. Thank you Ruby.

Phil Jones harmed the whole scientific community. That isn’t to say there isn’t a problem, take a look at Alaska’s coastline. Or look at the rising ocean levels in Asia.
    Good articel.
    Thanks,
    Clay

As I have posted elsewhere, the warming of the Earth is a natural process. The Earth was warmer and colder. There was a time hippos grazed in England, a time when the North sea was so
ice free that travelling from Greenland to Iceland to Canada, where grapes grew, was common. There was a time when the Thames
froze solid as did the Hudson River, as did Niagra Falls.

If the science is so solid, why did these people feel it neccessary to lie and cover up opposing science data? I believe something smells rotten about the whole global warming sheme. It is just another cash cow at the taxpayers expense. the corruption just keeps becoming more and more blatent. Our country is flat broke and they want trillions of more tax dollars based this shaky science that is based on the word of corrupt people who have made fortunes off this ? ie; Phil Jones , Al Gore ect.

I live in an area where today it is -20C. It is hard to convince people that global warming exists at all when it is this cold. If I lived farther north and the town was now lost to ocean or sea maybe then. Problem I personally face it I do not feel that some of the solutions that the other side suggest will fix things either and that the Ed Bagly’s of the world just make it all so tedious that everyone soon tires of trying to reform. There will most likely be a mass extinction in the works soon and that mass extinction will be humans. Maybe it is just evolution.

Good article. The fact that there is serious global warming is in no doubt. Whether it is caused by us or is something that would happen anyway, it doesn’t change the fact that we have to act now to reduce the damage that is being caused. Personally, I think that it is very obvious that humans are harming the planet.

I dont know.. this climate gate raises a lot of questions for me. Hiding data isn’t a good thing. global warming, I believe is a natural process, but others disagree I’ll respect that. If the scientists are hiding facts, shouldn’t that be a cause for some alarm. What could they be hiding is what I would like to know.

Ruby you did an outstanding job presenting this article, it’s clearly understable and suitably presented. The truth is out there and we sadly all must contribute to correcting this problem.

If the data does not fit your message than you fudge it? That’s what this is all about. Many of these people believe something so intensely or have their own special interests on the line they are willing to lie and misrepresent facts to further their cause. Sad but that is human nature.

    Dear Clay Hurtabise
I live in Asia , travel to Jakarta and Bangkok (1m and 50cm above see level) and have for 30 yrs now. Maybe you can let me know where exactly is the sea rising ?

You may be interested to know that my old house in Sfax Tunisia (height above seal level 30cm ) has not flooded. Oh time between trips…29 years !

Yes the world is warming , we are coming out of an ice age .,.again, we didnt help the planet get out of the last 5 did we?

Anyone hanging around for another 10,000 yrs had better keep their Chevy V8’s in the garage , we will need the CO2!

    Idiots !
