Stoning as a Method of Execution

What is stoning? Is it inhumane or humane? What do you think?

Stoning is a very cruel and inhumane way of executing a person. Execution is wrong but to kill a person by throwing hundreds upon hundreds of rocks at them is very cruel. The killing of any person is wrong, but especially for something that isn’t even worth losing life to like adultery.  If you kill another person you should be executed or killed as a result, but they should not go as far as to execute you by stoning if you commit the crime of adultery.  Stoning is a slow and painful way to murder a person.  There is no excuse for the killing of any person whether in the name of any religion, culture, or tradition or not.  As humans we have many basic rights like the right to life, but stoning is an example of a brutal violation of that right.  Like in America, stoning is against the law in Indonesia. It is defined as a crime against life and considered torture.  Stoning, the way I read it, is basically a community effort where not only one person is throwing all the stones, it’s a group of people.  The stones are not to be large enough to kill the person by one or two strikes; nor should they be so small that they could be defined as pebbles.  Why they are so picky in the size of the rocks when what they are doing is already cruel. Do they think that if they become picky about the size that they are helping the person?

Women are far more likely to become victims of stoning. Nine out of ten people that are stoned are women and when they are stoned they are buried to the neck where as men are only buried to their waist so they have a chance to escape. Why don’t women have the same chance?  If you are going to execute someone you need to do it as quickly and with the least amount of suffering possible because no matter how bad the crime that person is human to and they are just like you and me.  They have rights too. Overall, you could say that stoning is effective because it does kill the person, but there are better ways of executing a person out there.
