Study: 200 million people are threatened by the migration of their home a few years due to climate change.
To a study presented at a UN climate conference hosted by the German city of Bonn that the consequences of climate change will threaten the stability of millions of human beings on the planet. Other studies have also emphasized that developing countries and island states will be more affected by these changes.
A study conducted by international experts on climate protection to the consequences of the manifestations of climate change such as hurricanes, droughts or floods are taking a new dimension to threaten the stability of millions of human beings on the planet. The organizations of the United Nations and international relief organizations on Wednesday (June 10, 2009) at the United Nations Primer for Climate Protection, held in Bonn, Germany that by 2015 some 200 million people around the world in all areas where they live, having become suitable for accommodation because of the consequences of climate change.
The study warned, which relied on estimates of the International Organization for Migration, the migration movements caused by climate change will exceed all migratory movements that the world has seen so far, if not take the necessary action to stop global warming. The study authors predicted that millions of people abandon their homes during the coming years due to climate change. They also stressed that people in developing countries and islands will be the first and most affected by climate change.
The risk of flooding on residential areas and agriculture
Charles Earhart, coordinator for change in the international relief organization “CARE” Climate change is having today, “a significant impact on the decisions of people to leave their homeland.” The Earhart that the consequences of rising seas and rivers would be alarming, as is clear from the study that the flood water could flood the homes of more than 14 million people living on the banks of the Mekong River in Vietnam and a half of agricultural land there if the water level rose by two meters, at which can also occur to the River Nile in Egypt, for example.
The international relief organizations and institutions of the United Nations has said in the conference that some 20 million people all over the world have been displaced and fled their neighborhoods in 2008 alone due to natural disasters that have occurred as a result of climate change. According to the organizations, the number of people who were directly affected by natural disasters during the past decade strongly, and affected 211 million people per year, on average, the consequences of climate change.
