Sweet Land of Liberty

NC proposed ban on gay marriage.

What  United States of America is this?  I was raised with patriotic pride. My parents taught me that this
amazing country of ours is a safe haven for those who are persecuted for their beliefs in other places. We have the right to voice our opinions. We do not have the right to tell our fellow Americans how to live, what to believe, whether to pray and if so to whom. Thus the separation of church and state.

How do we have Americans condemning other Americans over love? The proposed bill in North Carolina to ban gay marriage is a ban on loving relationships. And love and family are two of America’s basic cornerstones.  Aren’t they? Love American style is accepting and giving, encouraging and growing  together as families and neighbors.

But what some people’s views of anti-gay marriage are doing, saying, lobbying for is completely without love and with very closed minds and hearts.  It is so sad that in this grand country of ours, I have to warn my children about behaviors that can get them hurt or killed. Cross dressing is harmless. Loving another human being is not only harmless, it gives meaning to our lives.  Do we remember how to live and let live?

I can not envision language that could make me believe otherwise.  I’m not talking about perverse behaviors like those in NAMBLA. A couple of adults who choose to make their way through this difficult life together should not first have to defend the existence of their relationship. Is life not difficult enough without creating things to have to fight for? People who genuinely care about the well being of others would never stoop to blocking progress toward a loving and peaceful world.

Homosexual relationships are a documented part of nature beyond humans, a natural variation in mother nature’s gifts.  See: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/07/0722_040722_gayanimal.html or: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/04/magazine/04animals-t.html .  And yet there are people who think they are above nature, above the natural order of life on Earth. Give me one real reason why gay couples should not marry in America. We came here, to the New World, to escape control. For the right of religious freedom, which includes the right to express no religion, if that is what we choose.  We can not enforce any belief based on “G-d’s” will. Not everyone adheres to the same belief in G-d. And by the virtue of the reason for the establishment of this country, we must allow each other’s pursuits of happiness in life, love and liberty.

We can not make any valid point with  a belief. Beliefs are flexible and are not against any laws here.  Murder, thievery, lying are negative and hurtful in our society. Love and marriage are not.
