Taiwan: A Shame

The Cross-Strait relationship between China and Taiwan has been frozen for a long time. What should China do with Taiwan?

It is with great satisfaction that I watched China advance, a boundless country with unlimited possibilities. However, a frustrating issue that has lasted for decades but recently intensified has caught my attention: the cross-strait relationship between China and Taiwan. As a patriotic person anticipating for a better China, it has come to my mind that it will be the best for our great country if China and Taiwan are two separate nations.

China will be at her greatest if the all the citizens have one linked heart, a heart that has one goal: to create a better country. Although most of the people in Taiwan are originally Chinese, and once shared the same link, too many of their heart are “polluted” by KMT ideals, and too “unclean” for use to receive. I strongly believe that China will be more perfect without Taiwan.

China and Taiwan were once the same country. In 1949, a Civil war split the country apart, the Communist China won, and the KMT China fled to Taiwan. 60 years later, the two countries never had peace, until recently. The new President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou, unlike previous Presidents, choose to cooperate with China, and the two countries reached the lowest tension they ever had since the Civil War. However, after many attempts to cooperate, the truth has revealed itself: China and Taiwan could never be together again.

With all the differences between the governments and economical systems, the adoption of Taiwan into China is impossible. Taiwan has the democratic government with the KMT and DPP party, but China has a Communism party. There is no way to simply change Taiwan’s Government and economical systems, nor is it possible to have one country with two systems. Furthermore, Taiwan exists as a separate nation with its own government, unlike Hong Kong (which was rented), so it would regard unification with China as annexation and would never accept it. The Taiwanese people also believe themselves as purely Taiwanese, and take pride in it. They would never allow annexation, especially from the old enemy.

Some people think that by using force, China can conquer Taiwan, like how they 60 years ago. However, If China tries to use force, they would suffer more than they would achieve, with all the blame from America, Europe and UN who doesn’t particularly like China. Also, America might even see this as the start of the 2nd Cold War. Even if the whole world agrees that China should use force, Taiwan would never agree. What would be the point to control Taiwan if all the people hate China? Using force on Taiwan will only create more hatred, making it even more pointless.

Without Taiwan, China will be a much better country. The government should stop the effort to “annex” Taiwan, and use the effort on something that will actually benefit the country. China, like what Ma said, should “recognize and respect Taiwan” as a separate and independent country.
