Ten Addictions to Keep in Check
Something addictive will give you a buzz at first and make you feel satisfied. That’s why you become addicted to it. Yet you become tolerant too and need a bigger and bigger fix to get the same result. Avoid the addiction and you get withdrawal symptoms or at least miss it. Here are ten common addictions.
5) Chocolate
What could taste better? Perks you up too. Too much makes you vomit of course. More-ish for sure. Can give you migraines, spots and contribute towards obesity. Moderation is the key.
6) Caffeine: coffee and tea
This is a stimulant, useful for waking you up in a morning. Some folk do get addicted to Caffeine. I think my Mum is hooked on tea. Some of my ex colleagues were addicted to coffee. I find that hard to understand, but there we go.
7) Television
TV may not be a substance but it is very addictive. I’m guilty as charged. I cannot bear to miss my quiz shows, sci-fi and footie. My V-Box recorder is always busy. So are my overworked eyes. Children are even more prone to this addiction.
8) Computers
Well what am I working on now? And seem to spend all day on recently?
Say no more. For me this is taking over from telly. Triond doesn’t help here, if you know what I mean. Personally this is now my top addiction, followed by booze.
9) Mobile phones
How often do you see someone with a mobile to his or her head, not watching where they are going? That says it all. Now, of course, they are computerised and Internet-linked: two addictions rolled into one. People are at their wits end if they mislay that mobile! Science fiction writers predicted hover-cars, moving pathways, ray-guns etc., but they seemed to have missed this one completely.
10) Cheese
Back to substances: Cheese! So tasty and more-ish. Even addictive. Not recommended in any healthy heart diets I’ve seen. Packed with saturated fats. Can give you migraine and maybe indigestion and constipation. Cheese gives you powerful dreams if eaten late at night. Lovely stuff though.
This list could almost be infinite. I know a compulsive gambler who literally left his baby son with a friend while he nipped out to the casino, for many hours! Have read about folk being addictive water drinkers: addicted to that drinking feeling. Even our own Triond Forum is addictive!
Better mention that Heroine and weed are illegal. Nuff Said.

What an oversight! I have just added cigarettes to the list alongside soft drugs. Talk about missing the obvious. Getting there. Thanks for your support commenters.
