Territorial Army Volunteers Betrayed
Territorial Army Soldiers who are called up for active service are bound to there commitment to serve but army can terminate contract whenever they decide.
Territorial army soldiers who are called up via the Reserve Forces Act 1996 can be called out into permanent service for upto 2 years. The reservist is bound to report to the respective mobilisation centres or face charges of desertion. This however seems quite hypocritical as the army itself is not bound in anyway to the commitiment that is signed.
Recently 6 soldiers who where called upon to serve the country in Afghanistan where trained for around 4 months for this task, only then to be told they where no longer needed. 2 of these Soldiers had to give up their flats because they where called into active service. 1 of these 2 also lost his long term girlfreind and his job yet the Army just pushed these men out.
Loyalty and integrity are 2 of the values and standards of the Army yet neither of these seem to have been adhered to. Surely the Army could have found these soldiers work for the duration of the 12 month contract they signed when they where accepted into full time service.
However it would seem that the Army has acted as a law unto itself and has discarded these men like many have been discarded before them.
