Terrorism: Is It Really Worth Worrying?
The true facts about terrorism.
In the past 50 years there has been an eruption of a new kind of warfare called terrorism. It has mainly been associated with Muslim radicals who have been waging a jihad against countries like Israel and USA. It all started in the Munich Olympics where the Israeli team was kidnapped and killed. After that there were beginnings of frequent attacks in Israel where buses were blown up, rockets were launched and now are constantly being launched in cities like sderot. This later transferred to plane attacks where planes were being hijacked and blown up. Finally when USA waged war on Afghanistan, the terrorist attacks transferred to America with several big groups like Al-queda and Hesbola being the attackers. With each terrorist attack, the security grew until 9-11 where USA failed to stop Al-queda from killing more than 3000 people. But since then there was not a single major terrorist attack with the strong security that USA has developed. But still people worry. Every day people are watching the news seeing about every small terrorist hijacking or bomb. Everybody worries about terrorist countries like Iran getting their hands on Nuclear Weapons. But is it worth it? Security these days is so air-tight, thousands of satellites, spies and countries watching every move of terrorists and countries like Iran that the chance of them getting a nuclear weapon is tiny. Even if they could it would be doubtfully that they would use it for fear of getting attacked back with a wave of Nukes. And even they do attack, the supply of weapons that they have would be small that it is not even worth worrying of world domination. Major powers like Russia and Germany were a real danger. But going back to world warII countries like Iran would be more like Hungary instead of Germany. And the chances of dying in a terrorist attack are less then drowning in your bathtub! This century(after WW2) has actually been one of the most peaceful times with the lowest percent of deaths only beaten by the golden age in Greece. So why are we worrying so much? Because of the information revolution. Any event that is going on, every bomb that goes off, any exciting or cruel murder that happens is instantly on the news with millions of people reading about it. And most news is actually dark themes. So the next time you hear about a terrorist attack on the news, save the anxiety for something else.
