Thailand Extradite “Merchant of Death” to The U.s

A Russian accused of smuggling weapons to conflict areas in several continents, will be extradited from Thailand to the United States.

Viktor Bout, who has become known as “merchant of death” were Tuesday put on a plane in Bangkok who then headed the U.S., according to a spokesman at the airport in Bangkok.

Americans have long tried to Thai authorities to extradite the 43-year-old, who was arrested in Bangkok in March 2008. The operation was led by the United States such as used American intelligence agents who pretended to be from Colombia.

Bout was a former fighter pilot in the Soviet Air Force. U.S. suspects that he has since the 1990s, smuggled weapons to dictators and war zones on several continents.

The case has led to a diplomatic feud between the U.S. and Russia, and delivery is expected to fuel more anger Moscow. Russia insists that Bout should be sent to their home country.

The Russian says he is innocent and has run regular freight operations. He speaks at least six languages and has spent at least seven different names.

In the U.S., described him as one of the busiest gun dealers. He is accused of both murder and terrorist plans and risking life in prison.

The business should have kept his life in the conflicts in countries such as Afghanistan, Angola, Congo, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Sudan.
