The Antidote for Confusion
In life we all do our own research whether it is intended or unintended. Researching topics in my life has calmed and cured confusion that has been present. Research has been my antidote for confusion.
In life we all do our own research whether it is intended or unintended. For example, when looking to buying a car, one would look through consumer guides, check newspaper ads, and check car dealers. As a graduate of high school with so much life ahead of me, my goal or purpose was to graduate from college. I have had to educate myself about all of the different universities and the degrees that they offer. Not sure of what career I wanted to pursue, I had to do a lot of research to find what I wanted to study.
To begin my research, I checked into different colleges and universities, tuition, location, and degrees they offered. After I had found a college that interested me, I applied. Once I had my acceptance letter, I looked through the catalog to find different degrees and classes that were required. I registered for general classes hoping to gain experience and knowledge that would foster ideas. In addition, I started volunteering at different job sites to get some “hands-on” experience. For example, I was seriously considering nursing until I volunteered at a hospital. It only took an hour or so to realize that I was not interested in nursing. However, I also volunteered in a doctor’s office and fell in love with health care and decided that I wanted to do something along those lines. Talking to my counselors answered a lot of questions about different majors related to health care. One day, I was looking at the Occupational
Outlook handbook, to get a better idea of what jobs the health care field offered, and I found Occupational Therapy. After a lot of looking into the profession, I found a college that offers a Masters degree and I am currently working on transferring to attend this university. The result will be graduating in 2007 with my Masters in Occupational Therapy.
Researching topics in my life has calmed and cured confusion that has been present. Research has been my antidote for confusion.
Equality for Women
The topic of equal rights is very significant. Mankind has constantly been fighting to be equal, while others are fighting to keep their superiority. African Americans, women, religious men, and many others have often died with the goal of equal rights. The rights of women intrigue me, due to the fact that I am a female and I am interested in the inequality present in the United States of America.
To find current reports on the fight for woman equality, I searched the internet for woman equality groups. I found a lot of interesting articles and resources on these websites.
One of the most prevalent groups today, The Equal Rights Advocates, have undertaken the fight for equal woman’s rights since 1974. Their goal is to educate others of the present imbalanced work field. Through reports done by the census bureau, they have found that the white male earns the most. For example, a white female makes 72 cents for every dollar a white male earns. This injustice is even harder on women with different nationalities. The injustice of the glass ceiling, sexual harassment, and penalization for being mothers causes discrimination against women.
Another group I found fighting for woman’s rights is the National Organization for Women. They recently organized a protest against President
George Bush due to the inequality present in the United States. Some of the issues they are fighting for when it comes to woman’s rights are affirmative actions, family, health, protection against violence, being involved in the army, and creating a woman friendly workplace, along with many other issues.
In my research, I found that women indeed are treated unfairly. I had never realized how many issues are present in today’s society that prevent women from enjoying equality worldwide.
